Falcus: the thread has been around for a couple of years and a few of us tried to keep it going but it fell by the wayside. I recently had a hard drive crash and when I got back on track had a hard time finding the thread. The search engine on this site is pathetic:'(

The section crew that iced this train made a lot of money in overtime because the train usually arrived in Laurel well after 4PM, the end of the crew's shift.

A trip to the feedlot on the south side of Laurel yard. Animals got better treatment than people in some respects. It was against the law for an animal to travel more than 24 hours without being let out of the car for food and watering. Logistic nightmares for dispatchers. The railroads were probably thrilled to see them go.

Before railroads began using covered hoppers,shippers depended on clean, usually refurbished boxcars fitted inside with wooden door barriers called grain doors. This string of grain boxes just arrived from the shops in Minnesota and are being pushed into the Top yard to be stored until requisitioned
