3Ds Max 9..plugin???..exporting to TRS 2006

I tried the 4 version in max6 it will not work
Yes there certainly are differences. Animations will not export at all when using a JET plugin. Trainz plugin for 3dsmax4 works very well with 3ds max 5.1 but after version 6 it doesn't...

Back to Jankvis' original question and a few comments.

I am, at this moment, using the 3Ds Max demo to convert the files on the Auran Content Creation CDs that are only in Max format (passengers and some industries) into 3ds format that I can import into GMax; jjslll54 told me how to do it (thanks Jack).

The meshes when imported into GMax are very small and need scaling up.

I have still to find out what happens about the original textures but I think I have problems as the original meshes have been joined together.

I would suggest you do as I am doing with anything you want to keep from 3Ds Max as even if you can get a copy of an earlier version I doubt if your saved files will be backward compatible.

Kelly88, on the Turbosquid site there is a forum on work arounds for the problem of re-registering. If I remember there is a download fix somewhere or you save the registry keys and re-enter them.

....use the free Gmax instead of the 3DS max.

U need to get the files exported to Trainz, *.im files.

I think u have everything u need to create things with the Gmax, objects, splines whatever....

I have used the Gmax and are happy with it, and I don't have to worry about any incompitable issues.

Hope u get it right anyway...:)

You'll find that many of the original meshes on the CD's have been joined together prior to exporting as a .3ds file. You'll need to separate them in Max prior to exporting. You'll also want to ensure that none of your texture names (or the files used to texture them) are longer than 8 characters long, because they'll be shortened upon export (the .3ds file format is very old and only allows 8.3 character DOS filenames).

My mistake, sorry, delete it and my apologies for bringing this old tech thread up.
