Considering theway computers have improved over 30 years or so, and if N3V is still active in the marketplace, What can we expect in TRS2030.
Imagine this:
You load up a route from say adelaide to perth (aust) and climb into the holographic cab after finally passing your driver exam. Your bullet train is ready to go because youv'e ordered it pre started. Your codriver says G'day(actually a person from somewhere in the world) You get some info on the onscreen computer. release the brakes, open the throttle and away you go. No more computer screen. Realism like in startrek. Don't laugh. So many of the things on that show are now a reality.

Computer Grapics in Trainz will be alot different, much like how other stunning video games are right now, and our grandchildren will say: "Did you really play that" ?

By then we should have animated switch points, and the confounded blinding yellow compass will have a KB toggle off button, a bell switch will be functional in the cab, all assests will be in completely wraped CDP form with NO MISSING DEPENDENCIES ... but N3V will charge 0.99 cents for every asset downloaded from the free DLS.

And by then I will be finished the PRR Horseshoe Curve route.:hehe:

That bullet train route from Adelaide to Perth you mentioned will not be a prototypical route, even by 2030. We still can't get trains to run safely at 160kph, let alone any faster. Aus is way behind the 8 ball as far as rail travel goes, unfortunately.
High speed national networks have been spruiked by politicians as long as I can remember, (and thats a long time), and they are still no nearer to fruition.

Mayan doomsday countdown is only a period of the time frame of one rotation
then it starts again, the beginning then the end.
the only thing in Australia thats as fast as the bullet train is our goverment ability to think up new taxes.

A handful of years back I watched a tv programme about such future predictions of a fantastic world with all the facilities and gadgets. It looked at what was suggested would happen from experts early in the 20th century then moved to the date period they forecast and much of it was nothing!

I however, will be always thankful I came across Trainz by accident several years ago and makes my day. Even with intermittent health matters it is on those occasions a great boost. When I come back in from somewhere or visiting I have Trainz to get on with and building a route.Always fun or amusing to look to the future but I will be happy with the continued progress of trainz in the real world!

Getting off topic. So 30 years from now, I hope that Trainz can be run with a joystick connected to my wheelchair, operated by mouth and that the retirement home will let me crank up the volume.
Speech control will be no good, unless it can recognise drooling.

And for those who create such excellent payware, it will be..."$10 FOR A SET OF 30 LOCOS WITH ARN, AND ALL EFFECTS....NO WAY!!".

And, if I'm still around, I'll be happily driving around all my re-created HO and N scale routes in a battered-up ACL VO-1000, circa 1949, but with ambient sounds and smells.

Oh...and with a nice glass of Merlot in hand.

Well, the way it's going now, I'd say that in 30 years those of us still alive will be too busy trying to catch rats to cook up over a the embers of a discreet fire to be dreaming about the days when we had the luxury of sitting and playing a game on the PC.

Come to think of it, my aluminum PC case may make for a decent stove in the future, I'm glad I didn't get the one with the window in it!
 
Bob I think I'm imagining on a higher plane than you blokes.
I,m seeing a train that you actually drive (a holographic image. Is that the right word) Also multiplayer wil be automactic and the people will be real, just like in that virtual world thing that they have now.Well, not real but you know what I mean. I'm hoping that zec might be the stationmaster. LOL

I shall be reminiscing the days when we had electricity delivered direct to every home.

I will also be whipping the nephews and nieces into pedalling harder on their dynamo linked static bicycles to generate enough power to keep my aged PC going.

TRS2004 will, of course, still be performing faultlessly.

The problem with larger countries making high speed rails is their size. Australia, The United States, India, Etc. are so large that starting the first route between two cities seems trivial; That is because it sort of is, my home state Texas is about the size of or bigger than countries with great high speed rail such as France, Germany, Japan, Spain and the U.K. in size by sq mi. So when you look at a map and see a rail line from say Houston to Dallas it doesn't look like much for the size of the U.S. but if the same distance were covered in smaller countries that I mentioned before you would go half way across the country.
 
A fellow around the road from me designed and built a device that sits 6 to 8 metres in the air and it generates enough electricity to power 3 homes and also putting power back into the grid.
simple man likes a beer or 2
took his invention to the powers that be and was told bugger off or you are D... so much for caring for the planet go figure.
our planet is basicly a battery
it,s like a real battery has a north and a south pole or + _
just think no more carbon fuels
if people dont get good govements in to run the place there may not be a tomorrow, they are taking more and more of your money what makes you think there not going to take you future as well.

I think the problem with Australia and America compared to Europe is the distance between cities. Hamburg-Frankfurt at 250km/h is 2-3 hours, Perth-Sydney at 80-90km/h is 72 hours at least. It would still take a day, and with all expenses, air travel will win

The problem with US politics is that the candidates come in with their own objectives that they are dead set to, that is not their job. Politicians are elected to represent the people that elected them, their job isn't to make the decisions, they are supposed to be a voice for the people instead they do whatever they want and kiss up to people when election time comes around. If the general population in your elected area wants anything or has a certain opinion about a subject it is the politicians job to give a voice to the speechless.

Instead they are bought out by corporations to turn a blind eye towards illegal activities and create laws that give them tax breaks. The system is broken. Those same corporations are just their to hoard invisible numbers, the purpose of any business is to make money, not to provide quality service, that is just a by product of the greed.
 
Well in 30 years, I'll be 80 and probably still driving virtual railroads if I can.

As Baz says, it would be really nice to have a super fast computer by then and be able to drive virtual railroads in a real-time virtual world. It is possible today, but the amount of computing power needed for such a task is quite high, and the cost would be unbelievably high!

Given that the 2012 is just another year, and that other culture's calendars have long past that date, I'm sure we'll be around a lot longer than the naysayers seem to think.

In 30 years ALL laptops (asside from very low end models) will have @ a 4Ghz processor, 10Gb Ram, 2Tb HD, a 4Gb dedicated graphics card ... and probably will be like a IPad or other handheld device.
Desktops will be super slim, and screaming fast.
Wrap around curved 3D screens will rival todays industrial RR simulators, used for training employees.
Most homes wil have an IMax type movie room, hooked up to a PC.
