The following from tr2006 doc:
By controlling the mix of Red, Green and Blue in a
color, you can create any color. These controls are
used to set the color of the selected item. They will
brightly colored when an item has been selected which can be colored. If no
item is selected, they will be much darker in color and the dials will not be
moveable.

What is an item in this context? I have not found it to be objects or ground texture.

And overall lighting effects i.e. sunsets / sunrises etc and mist / fog, only just worked this one out myself but you can get some very nice effects.

You also need to use them to see certain colors correctly. Recently I discovered when doing light colors like whites and light grays (probably other light colors too), details don't show well under default lighting especially at midday but when you adjust sun and ambient colors it gets better. Haven't discovered a "perfect" setting but that is subjective.

Is there a way to save a particular configuration of these dials? I mean, are they values stored somewhere?

They are stored as part of the route file. What I do is save a bare baseboard with the settings I prefer and use it to start a new project.

Thanks, wreeder: I will use your method.

I was incredibly happy when I discovered that I could finally have really dark nights, but I didn't know how to save the proper settings!

Thanks again a lot!

I discovered that if you try to change settings on an existing/downloaded route, it will not save unless you change something such as adding/removing a traincar.

Pendolino: If you want really dark nights, play with the gamma control: Can't get any darker than that.. But you will have to reset it for daytime.
