2012 Error Issues

Why does Trainz's 2012 only support content version 2.7 or above? The reason I am asking this question, after installing 2012 there were 159 updates that the game indicated were ready to be downloaded. Once these were downloaded it generated over 60 red errors. The problem seems to be that the original content may be 2.7 or above but some of the dependent assets may not be. If there is a program reason for this then I understand but it will cause serious problems for players that may not be computer savvy. It would seem that error checking should be put in place that checks not only the content but its associated dependencies making sure they are all 2.7 or above. If not the game should not allow the download. To Content creators (God bless each and everyone of you) this is probably just a bump in the road but to less savvy people it takes away the enjoyment of the game. 2012 does have some real nice improvements and it loaded with no problems as did the patch. Some of these 159 updates were loaded into my version 2010 and work with no errors.

That's weird because I've been downloading all the updates and I just ran a check looking for faulty local assets and it came up zero.

I think where the problem may be is that you've merged your 2010 Ja files into your TS12. I don't have a clue how bad that will potentially mess things up, I know I did it when I first got TS12 just to see if it was possible, but it slowed down the database so much with stuff that I was never going to use anyway so I wound up keeping both versions in separate directories and if I move something from one to the other if I have to go get dependencies from 2010 for example I go and do that and move just those dependencies into TS12.

That has actually worked out really well and I haven't noticed any faulty content.

Thanks

2012 was loaded on a machine all by itself. Thanks for your reply and I will check on this end for possible problems. I am glad it is working for you.

Okay I stand corrected, if the faulty content now is actually built-in that could be the reason. Built-in content is stored in the JA file, it bypasses error-checking I think that the way it's accessed by the database is actually from a list in the JA file I don't think the database accesses them individually like it does anything else. This is how they get away with putting content going back to 1.0 in the game and having it show up as not faulty.

If an update somehow updated a piece of built-in content it then takes it outside of the JA file where it is subject to error checking, and herein may be the issue. The way to determine if that is truly the case is to right-click on the faulty asset and go to the edit and if the revert or revert to original is not grayed out and you can actually click on either, it was a built-in asset and you can click on either one of those and it will revert it to its original state i.e. putting it back in the Ja file.

That would be one thing I would check anyway. I didn't get any when I downloaded the updates the other night and there was something like 60 or 70 of them I normally try to keep that cleaned out. But that doesn't mean that you might not have gotten a hold of something that they've since fixed on the DLS.

I would definitely check and see if any of that content that is faulty just happens to be built-in.
