2006 TO 2004

Not sure if this is the correct section but I'll start here.

I built a route in 06 and would like to put it in 04. I have both versions on my computer. Is it possible to go backwards? I know you can go from 04 to 06. If so what are the steps to make this happen? Where do I put the route (cdp) in 04? In the config file I have to change the build from 2.6 to ? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I built the Cumberland to Connellsville in '06, and converted it to '04 using the following procedure provided by Wheelchock. It works fine, however there are built in assets in '06 that aren't in '04, so you'll have to provide substitutes if you use them.

Converting TRS2006 Map To TRS2004​

Ok, I took a route I had in '06 that I knew did not exist in my '04 install and that would also be missing assets. For sake of the explanation below, I'll call the thing "MyMap". And forgive me for using "map" and "route" interchangably.

1 Opened for Edit in Explorer
2 copied the entire folder (the folder "MyMap" in ....Auran\TRS2006\editing)
3 pasted the folder into ...\Auran\TRS2004\World\Custom\Maps
4 opened the folder "MyMap" that I just pasted into '04 and renamed the files labeled "mapfile.xxx" to "MyMap.xxx"
5 edited the config.txt file and changed
5a trainz-build to 2.4
5b asset-filename to "MyMap"
6 saved the changes
7 went back to CMP and
7a closed the Explorer window it had opened
7b did CTRL + R on the route/map to put it back the way it was
7c closed CMP
8 opened TRS2004 and went to Surveyor
9 opened the map/route, got the "missing assets" screen and clicked on load anyways

Seems to have worked fine. Hope that helps....

Every now and then I dabble with reverse engineering TRS2006 to TRS2004. I didn't know it was possible to take a map from TRS2006 to TRS2004. Thanks for this useful post.

jrfolco - thanks for the quick reply and the info. When I opened 2004 and went to world\custom\maps I realised that the maps section was missing. I can't place the folder into maps because I don't have one. Don't know why it's missing. I will look around and maybe reinstall 04. I'll let you know later if you're interested.

Jayturf - I didn't realised how much sound is missing in 06 until I ran 04 again. Just wanted to see and hear what my route would look like in 04.

Some folders are not shown until you do a map and save for the first time then it is created.
