1912-ish airplane for Trainz?

Hi guys,

In regards to a project I spent some time on but still a long way from finished, it would been great to have had access to some model of a airplane from around 1912-1914...

I am not into airplanes so I really have no idea other then some simple Google search showing some images and the year so and so in aviation. There is a long story behind this though, and a written story my husband is thinking about writing that is to be linked to a small Trainz route some day.

I might be writing some my self, but right now most is in the thinking stage except I have the railroad basic up and running...

But, it would been great if anyone knew about such a airplane for Trainz or would be willing to make one.. :D
And, while ducking for cover, I would loved to have a crashed version of such a plane too... :p

Thanks for reading guys, I go back to modeling a little now, have a ore bin I need to fix up - and no, it was not destroyed by a airplane... :hehe:

Best wishes all

Linda

Hi Linda,

I have a DH-4 in progress, but it is from 1917 (like the Sopwith Camel). I wonder if Whecsailor did something earlier?

Curtis

edit: didn't see anything on the DLS from him...

Thanks guys,

I was hoping for a peace full plane, not a fighter, hence the idea of entering the era sometime before the WW1. :)

All those strange names, thanks Curtis for the dating. :)

Whecsailor, I remember his name, he/they did/do great work as I remember, and so do you by the way Curtis, and many with you and us if I would include me.

Well, it did not hurt to ask, down the line it might appear something I can use, so far it is a non essential model but would been cool if there had been one seeing I seem to live 100 year or so back in time in my Trainz life...

So in a way, good Trainz is not like Second Life, living 100 years back there I think would been hard...

Thanks to all those who creates non Train stuff to be used in Trainz, you all bring pleasure into this program for someone who likes it for the World building and not so much for the Trains them self...

Best wishes and thanks!

Linda

Looking through my portfolio of homemade VRML models there are three that would fit the specification:

- Bleriot IX
- Rumpler Taube
- Ilya Mourometz

The models are military-marked, but that can be fixed in texture. The three were all pre-WWI observation or civilian sporting aircraft before the war began. Would they work for you? Years ago, a Russian friend inserted the IM (float version, the one I have has got wheels) into a naval war simulation with satisfactory results. I have no idea how to make one actually fly in-game, though... any aircraft creators want the meshes to play with? Otherwise they'll be static display.

Hi Linda,

Ah, the good old days ;-)

My DH-4 is a post-war civilian version; specifically the DH-4B modified for the US Air Mail (1918-1927). I also have a crop dusting version, but I don't think that is prototypical - at least not for this model. The mostly complete version is posted at http://www.carsoncarshops.com/beta.htm if you think it might work.

Hi guys,

Pweiser, thank you for you comments, I did a quick Google look and that Russian big plane - the Ilya Mourometz was a surprise due to its size and the mention of it used as a cargo airplane as that almost fitted with an idea I had.
But, it did not work out as a viable plan for now, sadly as it was sort of cute in it's bulkiness. :)

The Bleriot IX seems to have been a failure in actually flying, at least according to a couple of hits I saw, but then someone mention a XI and it appears like they could easily be mixed up so I got confused and left the sites as both seemed not to be good planes... :(

The Rumpler Taube was another surprise as recently we saw a program on Norwegian TV about the first airplane in Norway which was indeed such a plane, and while I have not dug to see if it might have flown in the North American region so far it seems like the best bet out there.
And, it is cute, so maybe till I might find something else it might be used.

The writer, I mean, my husband - who strangely enough is not into Trainz... - seems to think we need a airplane with dual wings, biplane I think it is called, but for me, I don't know really, I just have an idea in my head and a railroad to explain and a plane to use for a crash...

Prototypical is nice, but sometimes in the Trainz world we need to skip a little, so Curtis, I will take a look, I'm new into this part of the transportation world and it is my husband who has the closer tie being old Norwegian Airforce guy, but no, he was not a pilot, could not in the days because of height and eyesight he told me.

Me, I just create a world of mining and scenery and a railroad and a history behind it all involving a airplane and a long story and a place called Crash City... :p

Thanks fellow Trainzers!

Linda

Sounds like you may be looking for something like a Curtiss "Jenny" - popular barnstormer biplane, two seats... but they weren't developed until 1915 and didn't become prevalent around the USA until the 1920s when the military trainer version was dumped on the market in large numbers.
