sending assets

Hi all,
I am being PM'd a lot by a person who shall remain nameless asking me to send them Boats ATLS assets.
I suggested they get them from the DS, I did, but the excuse was that they have a slow net speed....???!!
Crikey, it must be ruddy slow, the ATLS assets are all very small. This brings me to think that they are either (a) not who they say they are or (b) up to no good.
The last request was for the meshes...

In any event I didn't make these assets, they need to contact the person who did, so all this swerving around doing the obvious is highly suspicious!

Angela,

I would just ignore them. They must know it is against the CoC to do such a thing. Not only that but you could also get into trouble from the creator of the assets. Just pm them back suggesting they download via FTP or obtain a FCT. Would not like to see one of our artistic route builders getting a ban.

Regards Dave.

Cheers

Hi Dave,
I have already refused to send any assets created by anybody other than myself.
This is all very fishy, they are all very small files so .net speed excuse is a lot of nonesense. You could download them with a PC running on elastic bands!
I do understand the work put in by people who make assets so would never just give them away to anyone. My reply is contact the creator.

Thanks for your reply.

If they keep on I shall name and shame....

Angela

I agree with naming them.
Not so we can enjoy embarrassing them in a sensationalist way, but simply so we know whether or not to expect similar PMs.

It sounds like they don't have a legit version of Trainz, and therefore cannot access the DS.

Trainz isn't exactly expensive, and owning a PC is the bigger of the expenses (just a bit), so you'd think that they'd just buy the bloody game.

Unfortunately, too many people think the world owes them a living.

Rant over. :)

Protecting the masses

OK, it seems to be the consensus that I should protect the masses.

I would have thought that they had to be registered to be able to PM a member?

This person is vinnytrainz. I would not normally let the cat out of the bag but he/she was so insistant and kept sending their mailing address that it's got my back up. Maybe they thought I would be a 'soft touch' being a lady? They plainly don't know me very well! They should check my website....

I have just checked the "Members List" and there is no sign of that user named registered there. This looks like they could have a bogus copy of trainz, or they may be after pirating assets similar to what has been mentioned in this thread.

Here's a list of members with vinny in their name:

majorvinny
vinny
vinny262
vinny 312
VinnyAMS
VinnyBarb
VinnyDan
vinnyfrombklyn9
vinnyh73
vinnyr
vinnysibb
vinnywilly
Vinny Knoxville

It's worth finding out which one it is so that Auran at least have his IP

Mods

If a Moderator would post here, I have the mail address, it could be checked perhaps?
But I won't post it on the general forum.

Angela

Ah, so it wasn't a PM then?

That's a relief really, because if it wasn't one of the above names, it sounded like someone had hacked the forums.

Angela,

Might be easier to "report" one of your posts (the little triangle) with all the details that you have. You could explain the situation, in private, for the Mods to act on.

Hope this helps,
Ron

Yes, it was a PM. The mail address is included in it so I could sent off the assets poste haste! Got quite demanding after a couple of mails too....

Can you report a PM to a MOd, never had to do that before.

Angela

EDIT :- The 'Join' date says November 2008, Location is India.

Yes, correct name

It is vinnytrainz. Clicked on the name and got a join date of 4th November 2008, India. Not a member of any Groups, No posts or Threads started by this person.

I agree that PM priviledges should be removed from this member. If they can access PMs and the forum they are online and a member so can go download the assets themselves.

Angela

I thought all who registered would be included in the "Members List." I did a search for all who have posted here and we are all listed, unusual that this other member is not listed.

I too have had some correspondence from this vinnytrainz. Same request, same excuses, same polite refusal. I hope he hasn't stopped PMing because someone has sent him the assets.

Shame we don't still have the 'flatcar' from the old forum showing registered versions of Trainz... :o
