the IOW Rover... calling at all stations

hi all... having recently joined the IOW steam railway as a volunteer, i was rather inspired... and after forking out a fiver on some old track plans i started work...

today i just started laying down some basic scenics... so i thought i'd share this project,

my brief is to recreate all of the Isle of Wights railway system as it was around 1950 ish, using origional diagrams to provide the correct curves, gradiants, layout and platform & siding lengths, and ordance survey maps to provide scenic details

at the moment all the track is laid down between Merstone & Sandown... and most of the line between Sandown and Brading... some basic scenics have been placed just outside of Merstone station... so heres some images:

from this i hope to continue with the scenics on the completed section before finally adding the rest of the bridges and buildings, then i'll go back to track laying

Looking forward to seeing your work when it is ready. I was fortunate enough to spend a few hours at Havenstreet and ride the train on the recent "Return of Calbourne" weekend. Also brought home a couple of books of the IOW Railway with a view to doing a project of my own. That might take a while.

The work and effort that has gone into preserving the remaining section of the railway is amazing. I found it just as interesting as the railway museum in York. While I haven't visited many restored railways I can highly recommend the IOW Railway.

Back in the middle to late 50's I lived at Ashey and used to catch the train to Ryde for school. Much of that track still exists and still looks much like it did back then.

@ Colinknapp. Not sure if you're aware of it but there's a screenshots section on the forum. You could do a dedicated thread in there with full size screenshots or add to the UK screenshots thread. I think there's also a dedicated steam thread too. Would you mind telling me what the stone arch bridge is in the first and second shot please?

Cheers.

oh right... sorry, i was interpretting it as being about a route rather than the screen shots... i'll move it at some point...

regarding the bridge, i'll look it up when i get home and post the kuid later

I wasn't having a go at you for posting about your route here. Apologies if that's the impression you got. I was just suggesting if you were going to put a lot of screenshots up for your route, the screenshot gallery might be a better choice. I only came across the pics by accident as I didn't expect to find them here. If I might add, they're look good so far.

Cheers.

oh right... i was only planning on using the shots as proof of progress (also i can't see how to move the thread... is starting a new one the only option?)

the bridge is
<kuid2:52:37371:1>

Unfortunately only moderators can move threads. There's nothing to say you can't just continue this one though.

Thanks for the KUID.

If you check out madtrainz14's thread in the screenshots section, he has shown his entire progress more or less from board 1 on his current route. Have a look here http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=61155 to see what I mean.

Is that one of Paulz's locos?

unfortuantly most of the videos scenes don't show any indication of their locations... however i can get some useful stuff out of it, thanks
