Norfolk Southern Corporation released an official press release this morning from their Norfolk, Virginia headquarters concerning the alleged heritage units.

NS confirmed that there will indeed by 18 heritage units painted in various schemes reflecting past railroad companies that make up the current NS system.
As previously planned there will be 10 Progress Rail/EMD SD70ACe locomotives and 8 General Electric ES44AC locomotives. All 10 Progress/EMD's will be painted in house by EMD in Muncie, Indiana. The 8 GE's will be painted by Norfolk Southern shop forces in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Altoona, Pennsylvania. It is presumed that the 4 GE's with southeastern heritage will be done at Chattanooga and the GE's with northeastern heritage will be done in Altoona.
NS took delivery of 4 ES44AC's yesterday, however it is not known at this time if they will be heritage units. Delivered units were as follows: 8092, 8093, 8084 and 8095.
