Hi All, I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!
I checked Snopes (URL above, and it is for real!!
Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!
You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer.
This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list.. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.
If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately.
This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

The economic impact of messages warning about a virus is now about three times the impact of viruses. Basically it clogs up mail servers and in boxes.

The comments of impact of emails saying beware of "Postcard" have been mentioned for some time so its unlikely that McAfee discovered it yesterday.

If you run in a user account not an admin one and use a product such as GMAIL which scans any attachments even if you don't have an up to date antivirus program you should be fine.

Normal ISP email servers tend to scan for viruses as well these days, it's worth while changing your folder options view tab to unclick "Hide file extensions for known file types" and change this on all folders. That way you can see the file extensions and if it is a postcard.jpg attachment your are safe, if it says postcard.exe then its probably suspect.

The greatest danger at the moment is web sites that have been corrupted to infect your machine. Even IE 7 patched with the latest updates if its not run in ultra secure mode is not safe. Firefox 3 with no script add on is probably the safest choice at the moment. You should also be running Microsoft's auto update and XP SP# or Vista with it's updates to keep the risk to a minimum.
