run round

Hi.... when an AI train does a run round, it goes a long way before it comes back to couple, can anything be done to resolve this please?.

A great deal of this has to do with the placement of signals (including invisible signals), the closeness of the switches, buffers and other consists. You really must have a generous quantity of free track space around the starting and finishing points of the run round operation.

I often tell people in these forums that the "I" in AI does not stand for intelligence. When it comes to real run round operations with real locos in the real world, human drivers are still the best. Modern AI controlled trains still cannot do it unless everything is set up correctly (which is not always a real world situation).

Make sure that there is plenty of track beyond any switches for the loco to move into. It needs a minimum distance between the last switch and where it will stop otherwise it will keep on going. That distance is often found by trial and error. Signals can also confuse it.

There are alternatives that can be used for AI run round operations but these involve placing track markers and using many driver commands.

There have been many threads in these forums on this over the years. Here is one with some ideas that you might use - https://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?154573-quot-Run-Around-quot-Problem
