Can anyone tell me why a Turnout / Junction is built like this
one blade is in between the tracks where you would expect it to be
but the other is on the outside of the of the track.
So if anything were to enter one of these one set of wheels would have to jump the track while the other goes around
The seem to be frequently used at Japanese Stations where they are set to a signal leaving the Station
The signal turns green and the point changes to allow the train through
I take it if it tries to leave under red it is derailed
