Try to leave doing anything until the new Intel processors come out in about two weeks time. There are some very big changes coming to do with memory etc.

The new i7 computers are an unknown for running Trainz, what I have read you may only get a Small increase in speed for a big increase in cost. The new CPUs are for use in servers and the new 30% speed increase is only for programs that use four or more cores. This is bleeding edge, Waite a year for the bugs to be found and fixed.
Get DDR2 800 not 1066 cost more and you will not see a deference.

The only thing I would consider is better GFX card .. You'd be better to match the system with an ATI 4870 ( 1gig or an X2 ) or nVidia GTX260 or 280 , any of these cards will give a significant improvement in FPS when matched with your cpu and ram ... no sense bottle-necking things with a narrow bandwidth card , slower ram and a smaller number of shaders.

There is considerable argument at present as to whether Core I7 will give any improvments in gaming performance and based on the limited tests and info available I would not wait to find out ... you stand the chance of being a Beta tester for the first chips and motherboards .. not a good thought .Better to buy something proven and wait until the platform matures if you're are interested in moving forward .... just my opinion.

Good Luck
