Generally it seems to me that written communication is self-regulating. Spelling and grammar were standardised to help easier communication and the easier you make your message to read and understand (according to your ability), the more likely you are to get the response for which you are looking.

I do agree with you Peter, however I find this a little stereotypical, lots of adult members of the forum also don't use the correct grammatically correct words simply because of laziness. I for one have better spelling skills than many adults I know, via my parents etc. While some members of the forum use text speak, they're certainly not all children...

Thank you for the clarification slabay, and the Oxford Comma details Ray. I always thought an Oxford Comma was a butterfly found in Didcot.

I will therefore accept the unusual usage of the extra comma, and am delighted to be able to return to this thread!

In fact, in celebration I have intentionally used commas before, "and", on two occasions in the above sentences.

Good luck trying to stop something that is accepted by our society here in the United States.. I try the best I can to use proper English, but sometimes, it can just be hard! And always remember, to look at your own mistakes, before you go around criticizing other peoples mistakes! What good does it do to criticize somebody else for have bad English, if you have just as bad as English? It does none.. It only makes people angry! And with that, you only make enemies and not friends! I help all people who have questions on the trainz forums when I can regardless of spelling or grammar level.. If you have to read it 100 times to get the point.. Then be it that way! It keeps your mind fresh... This is no different than an attack on people for bad English! Do you have any idea what their capabilities in real life are? No! Why? You don't know the guy.. You only know what he says here! Why not instead of make such ridiculous threads like these, look at our own situation and try to correct this problem at its root, and not attack other people about it?

Hes Right on the money I been trying to say this for years but no one listens. Every one wonders why I get mad over spelling attacks well what he said is why.

They are the heroes that Gotham deserves, they are saving lives by complaining about bad grammar and misspelled words!
I for one support them 100%! I am going to my doctors office right now and going to complain to my doctor about his poor grammar and hand writing! He only wishes he could save lives like these guys in this thread are!

Complaining about the problem does as much good as throwing a book at a computer with a dead hard drive.. Did the book hitting the computer fix the problem? No.. Did the book hitting the computer do more damage? Yes, it probably did... Now we look at the original posters resolution to the problem.. Does that fix the problem? No.. Does it do more damage? Yes...
If this is the heroes that Gotham City deserves, Then it sure is a crappy place to live! It seems to me that it would make more sense to fix the root cause of the problem rather than complain about one of its symptoms...

Oh, and that cop that wrote me a ticket that had bad grammar on it! Hes nothing but petty loser! If im being robbed you can bet I'm not calling the police department! I will not stand for the local police department for hiring officers that use bad grammar! How many men and women over seas fighting for the US do you think have bad grammar? A lot I bet! How dare they risk their lives for their country and also have bad grammar and make spelling errors! They should be ashamed!

If you have a mental or physical handicap that restricts your ability to use proper grammar or spelling, then any reasonable person would understand and respect that. If you simply unfortunately did not receive a proper education on grammar or spelling when you were young, then that's nothing to hold against you, but it still might be worth considering researching proper grammar or spelling; I don't think you can be too old to learn. What's inappropriate is people using poor grammar or spelling (such as chatspeak) out of laziness, as well as people doing so becuase they think it's "cool" (as is the case with leetspeak and no doubt chatspeak also at times).

It appears to me that some people were referring to dragonharh earlier in the thread without naming who they were talking about. I don't know dragonharh or why he uses poor spelling or grammar, so I won't single him out and criticize him. I'm simply stating my opinion on the bad grammar and spelling situation as a whole.

Point is well received by me, but for those of whom who have an education past the sixth grade yet may not be able to interpret the meaning of this post, he is saying that the original posters statement about somebody who has bad grammar and bad spelling content is half-hearted is stupid... Which I agree 100% that it is.. Everything he said above relates to that.. And more the reasons why this thread is stupid period.. Try re-examining the root cause of these problems, and not the symptoms.. After you see the root problem, correct it from there.. We might want to start with our children... Where this kind of grammar and spelling is accepted in schools, why not start there instead of making senseless posts like these? All relates with the book and computer analogy... Throw the book at the teachers and start teaching our teachers proper grammar! How come you don't complain about our government having bad grammar? So many roots to the problem, yet we are not doing a thing to fix them..
