Yet another Russian rip-off?

Hello All

There is nothing wrong with members trying to help the community. That's what this Forum is all about really. NV3 staff are clearly identified so there is no confusion about who is giving the advice.

Cheers

AJ

Mick, that was rude and uncalled for.

Yes, it is rude and I mean it as rude as it sounds! In this forum there must be no room for dangerous prejudice! It doesn't matter at all, if the one who made a mistake is a Russian, Belgian, German, Haitian or what ever. This should be crystal clear for some guys here!

What everyone else in this thread has said, has made a lot of sense.

Shall I tell you what you make for an impression with some of your proposals here? You know what happens if a fox brakes into a chicken yard?
What in Gods name is your problem? If a user finds out about unwanted copies of his assets, he reports it to Auran, they remove the stuff and finished. No need to get hysterical.

The point of this forum is to circulate ideas and offer suggestions for improvements to Trainz, Auran.com, the Download Station, and Auran Forums. For Shane to do so in this thread is not "offensive nonsense".

Then better care about the countless bugs in Trainz and do not demand such things as a digital policeman for the DLS. This is ridiculous. And demanding to check all users from a specified country is nothing else but a fallback into medieval thinking and spoiling stupid prejudice. And I allow myself to call this 'offensive nonsense'!

And about some of your ideas, you should not mistake Auran/N3V for the NSA/CSS...

Mick!

Absolutely not, no need to discuss this! I only wonder if you understand what I actually try to say in my post?

Mick - I don't want to fall out with you, but I do need to make a couple of things clear.

Firstly, where copyright is concerned it is better to be proactive than risk being sued for allowing the illegal clones to appear on the Download Station.

Secondly, the original creator may not even be aware of what is happening unless they read these forums, hence why these proposals are present.

Thirdly, it has been stated elsewhere about the Far Eastern community and copyright law issues, due to their communist nature.

If it's about commercially published assets, agree. This could become a problem for Auran/N3V...

Secondly, the original creator may not even be aware of what is happening [...]

Than you can inform him and let him decide what to do...

Thirdly, it has been stated elsewhere about the Far Eastern community and copyright law issues, due to their communist nature.

Really, no comment!

My concern is that there has already been a case of payware assets being uploaded (in the Bort case, which I remember you not being happy with how that was handled). It's only a matter of time until a payware asset gets cloned that results in N3V getting sued by the copyright owner, especially if it's a case where only specific users have permission to upload the content in question.

As for contacting the member affected, that's not always easy as email adddresses may change, and they may not understand English.

I'm interested to hear other peoples opinions on this, as it may become a very messy topic, and could have grave consequences for N3V, including them going bankrupt due to lawsuits against them.

Shane

Ultimately, the only thing that is going to stop the illegitimate uploads is if N3V disable the cloning feature in Content Manager.

Shane

Hi Guyz,

As a content creator allow me to through my 2 cents into the arena!!!

Been around these parks since 2001, and back then there was no CMP+ (for those with the first trainz you know how it was) --- so the only way for anyone to duplicate an item was to get in contact wit the orignal creator and asked for permission to reskin the material inside the folder or furthermore, asked for the mesh itself to mod it as they like --- And to be honest, this kind of system worked -- why? because it forced folks to communicate with their fellow members, etc etc etc .... See, now in these days the (my opinion) cloning feature detached members from really communicating with each other, because why other get in content with the original author when he or she just clones the item and moves forward with it! Now is like we are all strangers, where as, back then, most creators knew each other on a personnel level!!

I feel that the cloning feature should be gone as Shane suggested, and I feel that anyone caught unloading items that clearly has not been approved by the original creator should have a 3 strikes rule in which the last strike is a lifetime banned!

Cheers

One strike and you're gone for good!!! This is not a mistake, they know what they are doing. I have not tried cloning yet, but if I did clone something, it would be for personal use only. Even then, I might still feel a little guilty about it. You have to respect the work of creators, especially the good ones. I can't create a thing. Once my route is finished (it make take eons), I'm putting out some feelers for 1950's Canadian rolling stock. I do not mind paying for quality work, and would never ask anyone to use their time and skills for nothing. These guys have given us tons of great items, they deserve a little respect. No body should be allowed to mess with their work unless they ask first. I came from a flight sim site before trainz. 90% of the items in the downloads was top quality. You could not just throw something together and upload it. It was tested by some members, tweaked if needed, and then checked out by staff members. After that it was offered as a download.

Cheers.....Rick

Hi,

I do not know since ! have never clone an item, sorry!

We do know for one thing that once everything has been sorted out the process for uploading and approving content will be much longer.

This can happen ocassionally as we modify assets for our own use, but the main issue is caused by multiplayer as we've been discussing. I wonder if it would be possible to setup a secondary host strictly to hold assets for multiplayer use. This could, I suppose maybe, stem the glut of these assets from appearing on the download station. With the multiplayer routes in one place, along with their associated assets, it would be easier to police these items and enforce the rules regarding content sharing and modifications.

What's interesting, like Bort's uploads, none of the assets have been modified other than the KUID number being changed. This includes the trees by Urman_diesel and others.

John

That may make it easier for N3V to police things.

Most of the problem content is from the TrainzUP site, which does not traditionally upload content to the DLS.
