Worrying Times Ahead.

Hi All,
If my future threads/post are short, lack my usual humour, or are non-existent I apologize in advance.
My youngest son, a Royal Marine Commando' has just been posted to Afghanistan, so its sleepless nights ahead for my wife and myself.
My personal wish is that our planet could take a lead from this Forum, a truly International Brother/Sisterhood of individuals, who's minor disagreements are usually accompanied by a smiley.
I will try to keep my life and post's as normal as usual, but if I seem impatient in anyway, I hope I can rely on your understanding.
Thanks
Pete.

Do you have any other means of keeping up besides local news stations and papers? Here, I have a channel called The Miltary Channel and another The History Channel that go into detail beyond what the news outlets will. Shows like what they provide can help give a better understanding of what is current.

Pete,

As I had three daughters , I was never personaly confronted with your situation (and yes , there are several courageous and brave ladies serving our countries).

Be proud , and we hope your son and all those who serve return healthy .

My thanks to all of you. I have just shown your replies to my wife and it has brought tears to her eyes.
I no longer look on you as distant correspondence with the same interest, but as my extended family, our love and best wishes go out to each one of you.
Thank you all
Pete.

Hi Pete and to your wife,

My thoughts will be with you during this very hard time. I am sure your son will serve his country and family well, something to be proud of.

Hi Pete and to your wife,

I know one good friend, from this community, who is in Afghanistan. I'm am lucky enough to somewhat keep in touch with him. I hope the same is with you.

I pray to the lord, asking him to keep your son safe in the difficult times he might face there. God bless him.

Cheers,
Adam

Update

Hi All,
Just a quick update. I have just spent an hour on the telephone to my son.
I'm happy to report that my son (Martin), and 42 Commando, are in good spirits despite regular contact with our countries foes. Unfortunately they have had one casualty, but I'm glad to say it wasn't fatal although it has cut short the young lads career in the Commando's. My thoughts go out to him and his family.
Another reason I'm giving this update is I plan to copy your replies and send them to 42 Commando Unit, via my son, so it will show them that they have an International backing, and I'm sure it will boost their moral even further.
If any of you objects to this, I will completely understand, and if you could send me a PM, I will exclude your post. Needless to say, it will be strictly between your PM and myself.
Once again, my wife and myself send you our utmost appreciation for your replies and we wish you all the very best that life can bring.
Cheers
Pete.

Keep your spirits up lad's and return home safely Martin,

we are proud of you and your companies efforts!

Hey guys. Thanks for your service in these trying times. Remember, you're members of some of the best trained fighting units that ever existed. Keep your eyes wide open and your heads down. We're proud of you.

I am not a praying guy but i will make an exception....may the power above keep those in harm's way safe, so they may return to those who care about them, and those who they care about.

Just a few words to describe how well your lad will do, remember he's a "Bootneck", a lean mean, fighting green machine.!!!!!

The Royal Marines are the best in the world.....and as an ex matelot that takes something to say that....:hehe:

In my youth I served on 845 Commando Squadron, Fleet Air Arm, and served alongside 45 and 48 Commando, their training is the best in the world... so dont worry too much, he will have some of the best alongside him.

Hi Moggy,
Thanks,
I'm answering this thread personally because I'm also an ex matelot. 9 years queen and country.
I don't think I'll send this on to my son, he'll have a big kick out of it:hehe: .
You can imagine the humour that goes on between us when he's home, Navy V Marines.
Cheers
Pete.
