It is with great sadness I bring to those of you who don't know,
I have received an email from Steam Locomotive Works
They have announced that profits aren't enough to keep producing models,
A good nine years, thats how long they lasted,
In the coming weeks the portal will be shut down, I suggest you buy while you can,
You can contact them still to buy models after they close,
email is: steamlocomotiveworks@wp.eu
Another Fallen flag of the third party content creation system.
The Old SLW will be missed.

So what is happening? There aren't many content creationists around anymore.

Sorry to see them close their doors.

I think that many great sites are closing their doors because of the demands from the community. Hopefully folks will realize what is going on and work to help change the atmosphere for the good so the community can flourish as a whole and grow stronger with new talent.

It's not like they had a studio flat shoppe, that cost $30,000 a year in rent, and had to shut down because of meager sales, from no one coming into their store ... All they had was European stuff, with buffers ... They still have the assets, they are just stopping distributing them

I'm a great fan of SLW. Their little Polish 600mm/2ft locos are excellent, and I've a fair selection of their German locos, including their HQB 1000mm locos, which are superb. I'll be sorry to see them go.

Are you saying, you don't think it costs, anything to produce, and host, these models?

I suspect TANE maybe playing a part as well. GMAX is reaching its limitations, and after all the error correcting required by TS12 etc I suspect a number of content creators will be dropping out. The payware side is difficult as TANE appears to bring in new demands for textures etc.

It's a shame that as such has to happen. You can look at either way, whether or not its the community's fault or TANE coming out soon and GMAX is not supported, it's still disappointing that we are losing another content creator. Anytime that happens for any reason, it hurts. Hopefully something can come up, and cause them to reconsider their decision to do this.

If they are still selling products via an email address, this probably means that they are only closing their website probably because they can't justify the cost of hosting the small number of sales they are making. I agree with Justin (NorfolkSouthern37) hosting costs can be quite expensive depending upon the contract, host, etc. When it came time to renew, they probably took a look at these fixed costs versus how much they were making and determined it wasn't worth running the website anymore.

It is sad to see this happen, but it is the way things are. Is it TANE that's causing this? I doubt it. The requirements for TANE appear to be no different than those for TS12 or for TS2Mac. Besides, if they updated their models to support at least TS12, they will load fine anyway. Stuff still created for TS2009 and TS2010 will load just the same as they did before anyway.
