I did a reset on my Win 10 desktop today after copying the Steam and Trains shortcut safely away then copied them back after the reset but they are different looking and no longer work. Any help appreciated.

What exactly do you mean by a "Reset"?

Do you mean "Restore" (as in return Windows to its "condition" at a certain date/time such as before Trainz was installed)? If so then you would have to reinstall Trainz, not copy it back. Don't know anything about Steam but I suspect that the same would apply.

turt21 - Unfortunately the Windows 10 reset feature does NOT reinstate your previous installed programs that are external to the operating system. It does preserve the userdata (i.e. documents, saved games, etc.,) for those 3rd party programs however, if you chose to do this during the reset.
Sadly, it looks like you'll need to reinstall your 3rd party programs again and then match them up to their respective data repositories to restore full functionality again.

No theres a reset feature in Win 10 . It wont restore unless you have a previous restore point set.I may have taken another route had I known this would happen.

Yup - in the Widows 10 Settings tool, there's a RESET Windows feature under the Recovery options.
What that does, essentially, is to reinstate a clean, updated version of the Operating System (Windows 10) alone. It removes and does NOT reset your other program files (like Word, Excel, Steam, TRS19_Platinum, etc.) and any preserved shortcut links will be redundant.
Use this feature sparingly, if at all.
It does allow you to preserve your old program's data files/ documents/ saved games, etc., at the time of reset, but you'll need to reinstall all of your desired program files again to match them up later.
Sometimes (Never in my case) your operating system can become so compromised or damaged that a Reset is a viable option.
In most cases, however, this is a feature to avoid (or invoke only under exceptional circumstances).

A Windows Reset is really a waste of space, as is system restore. Safest is to use something like Macrium Reflect and create a system image on a backup disk that you can restore when things go wrong.

For future reference:

An in place upgrade done with the media creation tool will repair Windows and you won't have to reinstall your programs.

OK I kinda got things working minus my downloaded assets and routes. I reinstalled on a 1T external sata drive now I find it very jumpy whereas when ir ran off the internal it worked a lot better. I have a NvideaGTX 950 vid card. Is it possible to move the files back to the internal? And how and where to put it. many thanks

Yes you can move your user data folder back to an internal drive at the location of your choosing following the "Instructions for moving your content..." on the Install tab of Trainz Settings.

After that, you can then uninstall the external drive's program installation, and reinstall on an internal drive. Then point the new installation at the new user data folder location using the same Install settings tab.
