Will TRS 19 be an upgrade for Tane?

Hi,

I was wondering if I can upgrade my TANE to TRS 19 when it comes out. I have tons of hard work into TANE and do not want to loose it. If its not an upgrade will it be able to use the data from TANE?

Thanks

I may be fortunate in the choice of the assets I use but I imported over 20 routes and session from TANE in TRS2019 and did not have any faulty assets. Every route and session I imported ran as well or better inTRS2019.

Some tinkering with lighting was required to fix some areas which were either too bright or washed out. Still trying to figure out the right mix on the environmental color dials to render the proper colors.

Rest assured, TRS19 if VASTLY superior to TANE, in my opinion.

If in doubt, take the plunge and start all your new work in TRS19.

I might be a bit rude about the price but its an investment rather than a cost.

cashaber - see you took that leap of faith and purchased TRS2019. Well done!
You will see for yourself just how much better this version of Trainz is than any previous build of Trainz - even at this early access stage of its development.
There are still a few T:ANE built-ins that N3V need to prepare properly before bringing them over into TRS2019 - which will happen soon - but most other T:ANE assets are already included in this new build.
All of my own routes and sessions were reliably imported into TRS2019 - and after using the bulk update and replacement tool to replace missing T:ANE track-types, they were up and running - and looking considerably better, in very short order.

I agree with the comments above.

I've found that all the assets that worked for me in T:ANE also work in TRS19. And TRS19 is a quantum leap above T:ANE. If you don't believe us, watch some of my TRS19 "philskene" youtube videos of layouts I've constructed in TRS19, for example:

I'm firmly of the opinion that T:ANE will be the shortest lived of all the Trainz versions because TR19 is so much better.

I agree too. I imported all my content from T:ANE into TRS19. With nearly 200,000 assets, I had to fix only a handful of issues which were easily repaired. Since this is only a test database, I was more curious about how the content would move over and was quite pleased because I was able to open up a route I started in TRS2004 back in December 2003 without any problems at all. When the final version comes out, I'll do a bit of clean up first before I import my content because there's a lot of stuff that needs to be cleaned out that hasn't been used since the early days.

I'm still waiting and watching but when importing do you just import the route and
then re download all assets or import them as well ?

The best procedure is to import the route, and then see what's missing. You don't want to import any assets that are already in TRS19, whether built-in or base.
Once you have a list of missing dependencies you can see which ones are one the DLS and which ones aren't. For those on the DLS you have the choice of bringing them across, or downloading new copies.
To get a list of assets that you need to import, sort the dependencies by status and select the ones you want by selecting a range. View the selected items in a new window. That gives you a list of KUIDs in the KUID filter line. Select all in that list (Ctrl+A) and copy (Ctrl+C). Paste that list of KUIDs into the equivalent filter line in the version you are importing from. That gives you the list for creating the CDP. Import into TRS19 from that CDP.

If you're just bringing in the route:

Import the route first:

A) Download content if you fixed nothing and it's all on the DLS. You may also have a lot of updated assets available on the DLS too so this will upgrade the content on your route.

or

B) Import the missing dependencies if you fixed stuff.

You need to be aware of built-ins and DLC you don't have installed in TRS19, but in your case you probably won't have that issue if you wait until the end of the testing and content upgrading being done for built-in and DLC assets.

I've had luck doing this using both methods. Neither method is difficult and typically just a pain in the backside as usual.

ok I have taken the plunge and bought the FCT membership to trainz which included TS19 (full version) and the beta.
it looks good so far. but upon importing a rout that I have made it seems as if the land upon which it was made was about the only thing showing up. its a shame that they do make make an import utility that will allow fast and easy importation of custom created routes. I probably have over 1000 most likely way over and I can not possibly know all the dependencies I have used even by name

Uh? That's what CDP and the import / export options are. CM provides you with the dependencies, but as noted above you do not want to simply import everything.

I bought the full download version of TRS19. I exported my TANE routes as CDP files, then dragged them into the TRS19 content manager, then listed dependencies and downloaded what was missing, and I couldn't believe it. No errors, nothing missing, everything working, and the quality of the screen views are unbelievable. This is the best version of Trainz I have ever used. Even the AI problems are all sorted out. It's not an upgrade, it's a work of beauty. It's seems to be fully compatible with TANE.

There are a couple of assets with green where a reflection should be, but I see in another thread it's being worked out.

Thank You Trainz People... :)

I figured out the import export thing. My concern was that it did not import my content such as my google maps that I imported with basmapz. However, I am importing them now and finishing up each square as they are imported. So far this seems to be a better way to do it as all of my tracks, roads, hills, and some other items are already laid out. thus far I do like what I see in the new version even down to the sparkly water you get when the sun shine on it. (I wish this feature was an option)

One thing however that I have not noticed in T:ANE was the yellow grid lines appearing above the roads in some spots (maybe its a layer for snow or something) but thats a question in another forum topic.

I just wish that the route would be able to import all items, I get unknown assets. I figure these are my google map bases.

So far so good with TRS 19 however I do thhink that the $69 price tag is a bit steep. So I bought it along with the yearly Gold Membership may be the same price bit over the year I think I will make good use of the Gold membership
