Will my computer be up to Trainz 2012?

I've been researching train simulators with the intention of diving in and trying my luck at driving a train. Choosing which one to go for looks like a bit of a mine field from what I've read in this forum.

So can I prevail upon you to advise if my computer spec is up to handling Trainz 2012 or if not what about Trainz 2010?

Base: Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q8300 Processor (2.5GHz, 4MB cache, 1333MHz FSB)
Windows 7 64bit
Memory: 4096MB Dual Channel DDR3 1066MHz [4 x 1024]
Hard Drive: 640GB SATA
Video Card: nVidia GT220 1024MB graphics card

Would greatly appreciate any help you can give.

Hi oldtimer49r.

That should be ok to run Trainz 2012. Perhaps a bigger Hard Drive would be better if you start to download loads of stuff for trainz.

Also make sure you get a First Class Ticket for all the lovely stuff online to download as well. It may seem alot to pay to some people, but just think how many trains, scenery, and routes could you get for the same price from an boxed addon? (compare the price to addon's for Railworks or M$-Trainsim)

Regards.

Thanks for that. I shall go ahead and buy it. I live in the UK and as Amazon.co.uk are doing Trainz 12 at a very good price I will use them.

Will keep in mind what you say about a First Class Ticket and explore what's on offer when I've got to grips with the sim itself.

Best wishes. :)

I agree that you should be fine with those specs. My current rig is very similar and does well with 12.;)

Make sure you get an N3V or just trains version not a steam one.
Makes updating and patching less of a pain.

Hi Euphod,

Do you get a decent frame rate with your setup? Even with heavy scenery?

I've recently been bitten with the flightsim X-plane when I upgraded to the latest version. Frame rate went down a abround 8fps with everything turned off!

This is part of the reason for wanting to try a train sim.

Thanks everyone for your input. Trainz 12 is now ordered from Amazon.

I have to say that in my time I've belonged to several forums (still do) but there is something different about this one - in a good way I mean. I've been reading lots of posts to find out more about train sims, and the enthusiasm that comes across is great added to which the willingness to help folk out is quite amazing.

If I can master Trainz 12 I look forwardto being a regular visitor here.

God bless you.

Heavy scenery, yes, it does an acceptable job bear in mind I have a Core2Duo 6850 at 3.00Ghz and a GTX 460. (I did say similar).
Now, if some of the heavy scenery is faulty, or overused to the point of ridiculousness, then I have to make adjustments to sliders, fix the faulty content, or both. Everyone has to contend with that however.

Welcome aboard!:)
