Who would do such a thing ... and why ?

First off we should start with the late, great: Benjamin “Ben” Richard Dorsey
Who would create 6776 bridges and assets, some of which are ever so slightly different, from the same previous asset ?

What is it that drives them ?
Is it Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or an overactive compulsion, or a deep loving passion for RR's and Trainz ?

Let me name just a few others:
Dmdrake-8117 assets
Majekear-5501 assets
Jkeenan-678 assets
Sniper297-530 assets
Euphod-1606 (where the heck is Euphod anyway) ?
Trainz666-887 assets
Samplaire-865 assets
RMM with 1376 twees & scwuberies

The list goes on ... and on ... and on !
Forgive me if I have omitted some of the other greatest creators, and please add their names here, to this thread

And (who's his name), who created 3776 all too similar RR tracks, all with crylic/cryptic names, that you must download them all, in order to find the right gauge, and type of RR tie

RGCX must be a total madman, genius, to create 3674 railcars !
And I know I am Obsessive Compulsive to download each and every one of his railcars, and I am extremely upset to find that, why I instead have only 3596 of RGCX's 3674 railcars
Like, I am really going to build a 41 mile long RGCX train ? ... But I am going to do it, and have a melt down my PC in the process :hehe:

"Thank You All" for your great assets !

Embrace the differences (the French express it much better).

I know that some of bendorsey's bridges and other assets were "made on request" from Trainzers who wanted a particular asset that he has already released, a bridge for example, but made with some specific modifications (they wanted a different colour for example). Ben was only too happy to oblige.

In my case I took some of his "ditch crossers" and regauged them from standard to narrow gauge, with his permission of course and released under my kuid, again with his permission.

In the real world not all things, even those that start out using identical plans, end up identical - modifications are made to some but not others.

I suppose the alternative would be that we all use exactly the same track, tree, bridge, railcar and loco in our layouts.

All of the people on your list are awesome creators and Ben was the most generous of them. I simply asked him if he had made the Murray River bridge at Albury in Australia, by chance one day, next thing I knew he had offered to build it for me and three days later I had a bridge. Amazing man who is sorely missed as he was a large part of many projects.
You did neglect to include the venerable Davesnow, 6269 assets to date. I don't think there would be many routes today that don't contain at least one of his assets.
We have some pretty prolific creators in Australia too!
NSWGR_46class, 1196 assets
Willem2, 1602 assets
S301, 826 assets
Jerker, 358 assets
Azervich, 617 assets
These are just the first few that spring to mind. I'm just a simple route builder who is appreciative of the efforts of everyone whose assets I use prolifically, for without them my routes would look rather empty and sad.
cheers
Graeme

Hey Cascade,

Think of it this way, you've been with trainz a very long time, lets say you build and release 12 to 24 items a year, in just 10 years you would have 120 to 240 assets, now lets say you want different variations for the 1 asset you've created, say 4 variations then all of a sudden you have 480 to 960 assets, it's not like they where built in the course of 1 to 2 years, 8000+ is allot though, how did he do it, the others at 600 to 800 isn't much at all.

I have about 600 on DLS, most of the rollingstock is duplicates as you have a BG clean and a SG clean, then a BG dirty and a SG dirty so that's 4 assets used for just 1 piece of rollingstock, then it increases as you change from Imperial weights to Metric weights version and then recodes for the traffic they would of been changed too then the national recode then operator livery changes and all of a sudden you have 80 assets from that 1 piece of rollingstock.

So it's not *Obsessive Compulsive Disorder* it just happens.

Cheers.

I guess it is the same type of person who would make 17,414 posts on the forum.
I access the forum every day, but my post count is negligible.
Why? I guess, because I am a driver, not a content creator. I can't hammer a nail in straight.
I failed art in my final year at school (not from lack of ability, but lack of output.).
Any artistic desire was quashed forever.
I am indebted to all the creators out there in the Trains world.
Without them, my interest in Trainz would have died years ago.
So thanks to those prolific creators, for whatever reason they are driven to create.

I failed final year Art too, but it was the Art History that let me down - who cares who painted the Mona Lisa?
Woodwork was also a "no go" area for me at school as well.

It was computers and in particular computer graphics that revived my "artistic" side (although there may be some downloaders of my Trainz "artwork" who may disagree - they can always try to do better).

Once you get the "bug" of creating something that others find useful, then there is often no turning back.

A few months ago when I started building sessions for TANE I was very disappointed with the range of graphic icons that were available for use in the Message Popup Rule. So I learned how to create textures (non-environmental) that can be used in the Message Popups and before too long I had created and uploaded to the DLS over 400 of them. I was both surprised and pleased to see that some of them have had over a 1,000 downloads.

You don't have to be a builder of bridges and locos to be a contributor to the Trainz community.

In my humble opinion, one has to be a little careful in starting this type of thread. As everyone knows, there are dozens & dozens of incredible contents creators out there that have added tens of thousands of great bits of content to the DLS over the years.

When you start naming some of them, you always run the risk of missing someone name out that's a fantastic creator and still building content for the DLS. They possibly now feels a little left out and a little less appreciated, because his (or her's) name didn't make "the list"!!! I'm sure we appreciate them all, but do we really show to them that we do???

One name omitted above, that immediately comes to mind is Dave Snow. Last count he was around 6269 items on the DLS. Plus all his newer contents is still able to be used in any version of TS2012 including 49933 Ver 3.6 (& Tane).

I'm sure there's dozens of additional name that have contributed a lot of great content over the years to the DLS, that would make any list of "great contents creators" (They know who they are). Ninety nine percent of all us Trainzers really appreciate all their hard work. Thankyou.

Cheers, Mac.

I think the world champion is wedge_antillies!

29114 items on DLS plus I have about 20 or so on my installed list.

Now that's impressive. :D

Damn, I wanted to be the one to say that! I disagree that its the same type of person though, creating content would be a much more valuable use of time lol

The same reason the Rolling Stones have made 373 songs , all which sound alike (according to people who hate them)
Same reason people have 18,383 friends on facebook who they never heard of.
Same reason baseball teams play 162 games a year.
Same reason I have gotten up at 05:00 AM for the past 20 years and drive 25 miles to work.
Why...... because it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

Let's not forget andi06, who created 476 items. He was the moderator of the Trainz Dev section of the forums, and his AJS content is used all across the ECML series of routes. Don't forget his AJS track used in the boat's ATLS system, and he created one of the first procedural switches in Trainz. His AJS Superscript has found its way into several pieces of locomotives and cars. His 'AJS American Crossing Code Library' is used on several American and Canadian railroad crossings, particularly bnsf50's 'Grade Xing' series of railroad crossings. His 'AJS Traffic Library' is used in dinorius_rdundicus's and others' vehicles. And that's only a few of his creations that can be found in other creators' content.

Like I said: "The list goes on ... and on ... and on !
Forgive me if I have omitted some of the other greatest creators, and please add their names here, to this thread"

If I had actually been able to recall, and list all the names of great Trainz content creators out there, my list would be many pages long !

Please continue the listing of the names of all the great content creators, and total numbers of assets they have made

OC is not really a disorder ... Stamp and Coin collectors suffer from this compulsive syndrome ... and they have a very, very happy life, all wrapped up in their compulsion to attain ALL off their collection ... even people with many medical named syndromes, are the most intelligent people on earth ... I bet Albert Einstein had a named medical syndrome

I knew a man that had each and every Lionel piece made ... and he had no train platform to run them on

He even had the pink Barbie helicopter launching flatcar

I think the problem with this type of thread is it doesn`t recognise those who took part in the process. Researchers, beta testers, reskinners, people who created a script that is used multiple times, those who ttok their cameras out to get textures, even those who answered questions about how to something. Very few content creators work in a vacuum or completely unaided and without the "support teams" a lot of content wouldn't get created.

Well said, John. Although I create a lot of my textures in Photoshop myself, I have used countless textures that I "stole" off the web! And used lots of scripts that already existed and are commonly used on a multitude of assets.

Well ... That's where you all can come in and add them ... and post all their names ... Including the Auran Brew Crew ... and the present N3V staff ... Thanks to Tony Hilliam, we have a great railroad/world simulator

Just a passing thing but Euphod just suddenly vanished although a regular a long while back now. He could be nippy at times but I think that there was some personal or health issue. Someone be a regular person but if something occurs and anyone close knows nothing about Trainz that is it.

I don't see you as a kleptomaniac, young Dave. One never "steals" anything off the web, it's always "borrows" :hehe:

Cheers, Mac.

Thank you cascaderailroad. Yes, when I was doing assets it was a compulsion. One I loved.

Just a mention here of Ben Dorsey. Ben was a good friend I never got to meet in person. I have no idea what he looked like, but I will always miss him. I trust he thought of me the same way. Ben had the compulsion too.
