white spline circles, yellow spline circles, yellow circles with yellow down arrow

would anyone be able to shed some clarifications on this, unable to find answers in the manuals; only concerned about spline circles for track layouts:

- difference between white circle and yellow circle

- i find these yellow circle with down arrow in middle; i am unable to make changes or delete these and it is preventing me from tweaking something; is there a way to manipulate these?

- i was able to add a junction automatically to a track segment delimited with white circle; but i can not do this if segment delimited with yellow circles; however in several maps i see track layouts done almost exclusively with yellow circles and these have junctions and curves etc...

thanks

On splines, whether they be track, fences, trees or whatever with white spline circles will follow the terrain up and down. Yellow spline circles have had their height fixed and will not move up and down with the terrain. Track should always have the splines fixed, to do this, Left click on the track tab, then left click on advanced, at the bottom of the advanced panel there are three icons. Click on the left icon then click on a spline circle and the altitude will appear in the little box. Type a different number in the box, click on the middle icon then click on the spline circle and it will be fixed at the height you typed in the box.

The Yellow circles with arrows are the same as the ones without; the arrow is just indicating that the track is at a different height then the ground.

Some routes use an older system of double track (which is really a bridge looking like track). The individual track splines are linked together and get the yellow circle, there should also be a third spline point near by to the two track ones which you can adjust both tracks from. These days it is best to avoid using 'pre-made' double track and instead run two pieces of single track, as it allows for much more flexibility.

All done BEFORE the height was fixed...

There is nothing about a fixed track vertex (yellow) that prevents a junction from being laid off it. In fact as Bill says - all track vertexes should be fixed. I suspect the junction problem is as Peter suggests - double track. But again there is nothing about a fixed vertex that should prevent that vertex from being deleted or otherwise manipulated - unless there is rolling stock near by??

thanks everyone... understood everything and makes sense and fits what i am experiencing...

so i am basically down to one problem which is to remove a fixed height... in other word reverting a yellow back to white spline... been unable to do that and there are no rolling stock or whatever nearby (understood about that)...

what brought this issue i was attempting to add a piece of track to a yellow and it kinda connected but at a different height which of course will not work... was trying to adjust the height and could not do that neither actually... ended up deleting that piece of track and place another etc which worked in the end but wish i could simply adjust the fixed height to make the connection...

I have been having trouble manipulating track splines with yellow circles and down arrows as well. When the track is raised above the terrain, the down arrows will appear (or is it up arrows...). I find that bringing the terrain back up to track level solves the issue. Sometimes, you have to look straight down at the track, rather than at any angle to manipulate it.
This has been an issue since TS2004, and is still an issue with TS12.

yes i still have issues as i still can not modify neither delete these yellows... i did figure out a workaround thought... i will post later my solution because i gotta go now...

the work around is: no matter what the section of track with the yellow circle to be changed has to be deleted and re-layed out but to make it easy and especially more so to prevent the other side of the section to be accidentally modified i insert a new spline near the one to be modified (i was able to do that); then i delete the short section and it is easy because it is a short section and then i place the replacement track as i need it; hope this helps anyone...

Is there an industry or crossing near by? Industries & Crossings require a piece of 'Fixed Track' that now that I think of it has Yellow Circles. The only way to remove that track is to remove the Scenery Object it's connected to.

If you can post a screenshot or two we might be able to help ID what's causing this & how to fix it better.

way i think of it, white circles = hasn't been leveled yet. yellow circles = has. up.down arrows in circles indicates vertix being above or below surface contour.
these are very useful indications for setting grade and leveling, to avoid unrealistic and unnegotiable vertical contours.

Actually it's better (and more acurate) to think of the yellow circles as having additional properties. As you can get Yellow Circles that indicate a single-track connection to double track, an end of a piece of fixed track, height adjusted track, etc.
