Which Version of Trainz should I release my route in?

I have a route already on the DLS, which was constructed in TRS2006 and is intended to be the first part of a series covering my area.
Although I purchased TS09 and TS10, as the computer was not really up to running them I had intended to continue using TRS06.
The decision to discontinue support for 06, and stop uploads, together with the pruchase of a new computer has made me upgrade.

The question is

Should I release my route upgrade in TS09, to allow the most widespread use of it?
or
Should I release in TS10 to use the features?
or even
Should I use TS12, even with the known merging problems?

Whats the general thoughts on this?

For most assets it is best to release the content using the lowest supported version unless it makes use of assets from a later version.

If you intent to continue building on the route and work with merging a lot, don't go for TS12.
TS2009 will be the next version for support to be discontinued on.
So...
My suggestion would be 2010 unless you don't use the merge function for your creative process.
 
9 months in which you already know the support will be discontinued.
He had already decided not to go with 2006 for the same reason. If he value's that, he might as well also anticipate on what is more then likely going to happen.

Assets yes but routes no.
To avoid problems you need to build the route in the version you are releasing it for, a TS12 created route will not work in 2010/9 properly just by giving it a lower build number for example.
 
Is 2009 more stable than 2010? Some of you (clam, shane) have helped with my other problems with TS10, although we've not managed to actually solve them. These have prompted a rethink, hence the opportunity to go back to 09, especially attractive if its more stable, as well as greater potential users.

I'll not use the merge for my own route creation, but I will release in stages. If its for TS12, other users may not be able to merge back into a whole.
 
As you know Shane, I was using TS10. But the problem with it freezing on exit has made me think that I'll go back to the TRS2006 version and start the update again. But shall I use 09 or 10?
 
Could always take a gamble that the merge bug gets fixed in the somewhat now overdue TS12 Service Pack, some positive news on that would be good? I suspect the numbers using 2009 is probably relatively small now, just going on fewer 2009 related posts on here.
Don't forget that the route can be a lot bigger now before it exceeds upload limits, it's not that essential to split into small bits.
I wouldn't think freezing on exit in 2010 was a normal problem, leastwise never affected me and should be solvable.
 
Ok, the other alternative is to go for TS12, and and release it as a series of extended versions, ie Part 1, then Part 1&2, then Part 1&2&4, etc., until/unless the merge bug is fixed.
So really it's back to my original question, Ts 09 for widest users, or 12 for up to date features and long life of support?
 
That's a difficult one. If it's TS2009, you wouldn't want to do it in SP4 due to some bugs that may never be fixed. As for TS12, I'd advise hanging on until SP1 gets released, which will also give you trainz-build 3.7 as an option.

What is stopping you from building it as 1 big route and/or keep building on your route after you uploaded it and just upload the extension as a revision of your current available version?
In other words: Not bother about merging as you do not use it and upload revisions instead of that.

I also saw people write "TS2009 is the beta of TS2010" and with that not even consider 2009.

That's OK, I'm grateful for your comments.
I think it's time for a visit to the Shop, I'd not gone for TS12 before because of the merge bug, but the extensions plan is the way to go.

You can still upload a TRS2006 route to various 3rd party sites, or host it yourself on Mediafire or other file distribution sites, and people who download your route can always upgrade it to 09/10/12.

To me designing a route, and laying track is easier in TRS2006.

It's not like all TRS2006 assets will go away into cyberspace in the future.
 
I was disappointed with TRS2009 when it came out, I thought that it was too buggy, so I would recommend that you Build in TS210 and also test in TS12. Whatever addition trackmarks, etc. that you need in TS12 to make it work can be incorporated into TS10. It works for me.
