What to buy

Hi everyone
I am going to get a new version of Trainz (I have '04 by the way) and was wondering if I should:
A. Buy '06
B. Buy '09
C. Wait until 2010 comes out
Would also like some reviews of the version you have.

Forget 2006.

Personally I would wait for 2010 to come out. The 2010 website has just been updated:

http://www.ts2010.com/

Here here, I agree with itareus, I've got Trainz 06, it has terrible sound issues and Trainz 09 with it's wierd powerlines and strange silver land when it rains.

I've pre-ordered Trainz 2010, I've got my fingers crossed that all faults and errors have been fixed. Trainz 2010 has speedtree and is supposedly going to be faster on frame rates, we'll wait and see, I can't knock it until I've tried it, so I'll leave it there...

hope this helps

I also have '04 and am thinking of getting '10 but does anyone know how compatable '04 stuff will be with '10 I have tonnes of top quality stuff and 5 large unfinished routes, so I don't really want to upgrade if I cant continue on my routes (too much time lost).

Cheers all

In compatibility mode around 99% works fine.

@JohnWhelan - I think you've just secured my purchase (may need to upgrade my ram to 4GB tho). Is there any news on minimum specs yet?

:Y:

Thanx for quick reply

Well it uses less resources for the same frame rate as the other versions so if your machine runs one of the other versions you should be fine. Except of course some content creators are using more polys etc which puts the requirements up. For example TC3 has some lovely stuff in it but it can be quite demanding and even the S&C add on needs more than min specs on the machine.

I suggest getting '09 because it does have a new sd40-2, station and track, but wait until 2010 comes out and see what happens.

Not sure about that. If you don't already have TS2009, may as well wait a few weeks and get TS2010. I don't know the full extent of the included content but I would be very surprised if the three objects you mention are not included. Plus it has lots of other stuff that has been announced on TS2010 :)

Most likely it will because i saw one of the TS2010 videos and saw two of the three objects mentioned in my previous post above.

Amtrak

Will the new game have passenger pick up scenerios and any Amtrak trains? This is what I an looking for.. I bought classics today and I don't like it too much.. Considering I bought railworks 2 weeks ago and it's very very nice and my 6 year old won'teave the laptop alone. But railworks has no Amtrak neither.

Railworks do have an Amtrak train, visit this site...

Railworks has a lot of great content, some of it you may have to pay for...

As for Trainz, I'm sure there are Amtrak trainz available, and also I've seen somewhere an Acela in progress, whether it has been made or not, I'm not too sure... maybe someone else on here will know the answer...

As for Amtrak trainz, I saw this, I'm sure someone on here will know who made this...

I'm really sorry I can't be any more help to you...

Good luck in finding the Amtrak train you are looking for...

I have Trainz 2006 and Trainz Classics 1+2.. never upgraded to Classics 3.

I also have Trainz 2009 but never could get it to run smoothly on my machine. There seemed to be a delay in when I moved the mouse and when the objects on the screen moved. This was annoying! Let alone the hours of time it took to load it! Plus the Carz went back to the 06 style and I'm afraid this will be true in 2010 as well.

Trainz 2006 had great looking trainz that dragged the tracks. Once you notice this you can't not notice this. The wheels never turned and it looked horrible. Came with a lot of content but crashed often if you added more content.

Trainz Classics 1 + 2 had better trainz but a limited supply of them! Carz also came with this and it improved over all game play. I've spent hours looking for content that will work in this version.

My hope for 2010... is that it will still run on my machine... P4 2.5GHZ with 1GB Ram and a Nvidia 256MB Graphics.

That's the other thing... when it comes to stores read the box and see if you have the right minimum requirements or your train will never leave the station.

I'd push the memory up to 2 or 2.5 gigs if you can. www.crucial.com should let you know if its possible. It's a cheap upgrade that is very cost effective.

TS2010 will likely need less or at least no more than TRS2006. That is the case with TS2009. In my opinion, TS2009 runs better than UTC. So why would one want a better computer fot Trainz? Because Trainzers with top end PCs are creating stuff that don't do well on older computers.:(
