Still here... lurking
Hi guys, here's the dealio. So, I'm just minding my business on CM and when, all of a sudden, it shuts down! I reopen the launch menu, and I have to put in my serial numbers and configure the software. It's as if it reset to factory default! I'm trying to get on Trainz and it does a database repair. Greaaaaaat. While I'm waiting, a pop-up comes up and says "TADDaemon has stopped working." I did this five times, same result. Is there a fix to this??

May be it's crack down on people with over size sig banner --- tongue in cheek
There is some ongoing server work witht the planet Auran servers maybe that is the issue

It could also be an indication that your banner is almost impossible to read because of your text colour selection.

I haven't been able to open trainz 12 on my laptop because when I go to open it it tells me that the trainz database could not be accessed or something like that and I've done the database repair and I can use it on my desktop but it's just a little bit longer of loading time but I have to check it again but I don't know if this seems like the same thing cause CM doesn't open sometimes either

Your database has been corrupted due to many reasons, but mostly due to not waiting long enough prior to shutting down or restarting the computer. Running Trainz on a laptop, which has run out of juice can also cause the same problem with the system stopping suddenly. In the past, I've seen hibernation and system suspension also cause database problems.

Since your database has been stuffed, for lack of a technical term, you need to repair it prior to use. Go into Content Manager, open the file menu and choose Database Repair... Pick the Quick Database Repair and let the process run. This process is not as "quick" as the name implies, so plan on doing this while you are doing something else. When I've run this, I've done this overnight or other times while I'm away from my main computer where I have installed Trainz. This allows the program to have uninterrupted access to the hard drive and full CPU attention, and avoids the risk of more corruption should another program cause the system to crash.

Once the database has been repaired, there may be some faulty assets. Don't panic! You need to view the errors and warnings. These are usually caused by the data being "touched" and these may or may not be false errors. If upon viewing the errors and warnings, they should disappear. Those that do not disappear need to be repaired.

There, new banner. Happy? Back on topic, I still have trouble getting into the program and no matter what I click on I get a database repair. How is this fixed?

Are you letting the DB repairs run? Usually just one of these "4 hours of your life you'll never get back" sessions will fix it...

4 hours? Mine usually go over nite short or long.
Kenny

Sounds like mine! :)

Seriously guys. You need to wait for the DB-Repair to finish. That's why I said to let it run overnight.

@William. Your banner looks better. :)

I do let it run, I just check once and a while to see it's progress. It's like 15 minutes until it stops working. I let it run as an admin, no change.:(

So I've been wondering, (sorry to go off topic), but everybody always complains about having to do Database Repairs constantly and how they take hours and hours on end, are you (y'all) referring to "Extended" or "Quick" Database Repairs? I've never (knock on wood) had to do an Extended Database Repair, and the Quick one that I may do 1-2 a week takes about 15 minutes on my laptop. Just wondering...

The Database Updates/Repair Time is totally dependent to how much content you have installed. A few routes can have 1000's of assets. So if you have downloaded half the DLS you will have a long wait for it to update/repair every time.

I have yet to meet anyone thats claimed over 175K Installed assets (Roughly half the DLS). But in general once you're over about 50K assets (Twice what the game shipped with) expect Quick DB repairs to take a few hours at least. The Average active Trainz user figure has 50-70K. Content creators tend to have a bit more, and Route Builders in general have TONS more. Extended will usually take all night.

@Watemple
Yea, thats sounding like a corrupted DB item or 40.... I'm guessing your TADAEMON got interrupted recently? If thats the case, I would suggest letting CM load up, then close it, and let the computer run until TADAEMON disappears off the Task Manager (DO NOT FORCE QUIT IT, LET IT CLOSE ITSELF), then try running a Quick DB Repair again. TADAEMON is a pretty powerful program, but it needs time to do what its going to do.

Oh thanks and the day I saw it happen I did try the quick database repair so idk if it's matters if I try again cause I did also I think if I didn't say this earlier but I did the extended database repair but I'll give it another quick database I guess cause I haven't tried this in a few weeks

Ahem... If you've been using the simulator for at least 11 years, you've probably obtained a good load of content. :)

Remember too that built-ins, DLC, and downloaded stuff count towards locally-installed assets. Also keep in mind that if you download routes, you keep the dependencies even if you delete the route. That is unless you show dependencies and delete those too, but that can cause problems because what's a dependency in one route can be one in another, and it's also difficult to tell who is who when viewing dependencies. We would need multiple filters to show who owns what. So, in the end, you end up keeping everything otherwise you risk breaking stuff.
