What railroad/railway do you live near?

I live a couple hundred feet from the SEPTA West Trenton Line/CSX Trenton Line, a former Reading line. We get about 50 electric trains a day (mostly Silverliner IV & Vs, and four push-pull express runs on a typical day) with about 15-20 freights a day. Passenger service terminates about 2.5 miles east/north of here, but the freights continue to Bound Brook, NJ and connect with various other lines. I grew up near the freight portion of the line, in central NJ, and most of my immediate family still lives within a few miles of it.

Well,

I live near what once was Western Pacific (freight), Southern Pacific (freight and commute), and is now Caltrain (commute), Union Pacific (freight). B.A.R.T and VTA among other local things, with SF Municipal Railway for street cars, light rail, and cable cars.

Two here CSX and Norfolk & southern of NEC. And it's funny how I've gotten to know sum engineers by there horn use on the CSX in the yard. Both less then a mile. Oh and Amtrak too, nearly forgot. so it's three now. Four if I throw in the Wilmington Western .:D All within a Mile

The Escondido Sub formerly owned by Santa Fe, later BNSF, purchased by North County Transit District (NCTD, operator of the Coaster and Sprinter trains) in the mid-'90s. Completely relaid in 2007 in anticipation for the impending Sprinter service, including new stations and an elevated loop to California State University: San Marcos. BNSF retained trackage rights over the branch for a local freight service, later contacting it out to Pacific Sun Railway in 2008.

Today, Sprinter services operate seven days a week from around 4:00am to 9:30pm, to 11:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Pacific Sun runs a tri-weekly local freight train late at night, after the day's Sprinter services end, as required by law due to the Sprinter's Siemens Desiro DMUs light weight.

I live near the Greenwich Line Metro service operated by Southeastern, my nearest station is Plumstead

I used to live 400 feet away from the same CSX/SEPTA line that RRSignal mentioned above. That was in Ewing/West Trenton, New Jersey. As of October 2014 I now live 1/2 mile from an old abandoned line that where the railroad crossed the road was known as Wilkins Station. Some history on the spot (still in New Jersey) from Wikipedia and USGS topo maps:

1888 - Philadelphia, Marlton and Medford R.R.
Medford Branch (PRR Amboy Division)

This railroad was incorporated in January 1880. The railroad was completed from Haddonfield to Medford by July 1881. In January 1885 it was operated by the Camden and Atlantic, and later as a part of the West Jersey & Seashore Railroad when it was operated as the Medford Branch until its abandonment on November 2, 1931.

The line still continued North from Medford to Mount Holly:

1942 - PRR
1967 - Penn Central
2015 - Abandoned (Nothing left at all but tree lines)

I haven't explored it yet as I don't know what might be private property. I wouldn't mind finding a spike or two. :p

I'm right between two railroads, with UP about 2-3 miles south, and the Boise Valley RR about 2-3 miles north. Unfortunately, I only see a train on the BVRR outside of Nampa about once every billion years.

Just set up a tent and never ever go anywhere else or do anything else except sit beside the rails and play trainz if you want to see a BVRR train. :hehe:

25 min walk to the same main for me... Interesting, I see BVRR trains come out on the Boise Branch almost every day...
(I'm sure you know that I operate the Idaho Railroading channel on Youtube, so you can see that I seriously do live around that same UP main)

At one time I had an apartment that was across the road from Norfolk Southern's Southern Tier Line (nee Conrail, nee Erie).
My last apartment was about 200ft from CSX's Rochester Sub (nee Conrail Chicago Line/Albany Division, nee New York Central Water Level Route Main).
I work halfway in between (about 2 miles from both) the same two line, farther west. I can hear horns from both while at work.
I currently live just under 4 miles from the Falls Road Railroad (nee Conrail, nee New York Central Falls Road Branch). Can hear Genesee Valley's Alco horns on clear days.

A great time to be had on this little rail road of Delaware

Within a five-mile radius, we've got...

Union Pacific Kenosha Subdivision (ex-C&NW)*
Union Pacific Milwaukee Subdivision (ex-C&NW)
Canadian Pacific C&M Subdivision (ex-MILW)**
Canadian Pacific/Metra Fox Lake Subdivision (ex-MILW)*
Canadian National Leithton Subdivision (ex-EJ&E)

An asterisk denotes lines that see Metra service, two denote both Amtrak and Metra.
The WSOR also operates over the Canadian Pacific lines.

within 5 miles of my house is the Midland Mainline linking London with Sheffield and Nottingham, i have Toton TMD and sidings lintrally at my back door and will soon have HS2 running past within 750yards of my house.
