What Kind of Intermodal Well Car is this?

Experimental car made by ACF in about 1977 (SPs first double stack car - maybe THE first container car for double stacking). a 3 well articulated set was made that looks very similar. SP ordered quite a few in the 80s that look just like this but in 5 well sets.

Well, it's pretty obvious back then they were really paranoid about these newfangled tall double-stack things falling over. :hehe:

Then I can't imagine what the losses were for ocean-going traffic! Or did they have similar bulkheads as well?

Ocean-going traffic at 60+ mph?

Plus I didn't say the interlocks didn't exist, they just were not all the same standard for one, and the FRA did not mandate them. It was mostly precaution to hold the top container with a bulkhead. You may notice that most early double stack cars have some bulkhead for holding the top container.
