What is up with New Users' Usernames?

All the new users recently have had usernames like Robert2D6, Tom9CF, RobertBC6, and Ernest2D6. Is auran choosing their usernames? Or are they all just choosing similar usernames?
I think a user should have the right to choose their own username.

At a guess they are choosing already in use names and these are alternative suggestions probably provided by the new forum software. Can't choose what's already been used and I'd think most first names were used up years ago.

I read in a different thread not too long ago that a new member had his name picked for him by N3V.

I may be incorrect here, so take what I say with a grain of salt but I believe that the system does sometimes pick a username for you...not sure why or when it happens as it is not always but I do believe it happens.

This may explain these usernames.

Hi All
We introduced an 'automatic username' system when someone attempts to purchase items from our shop without being logged in. The system gives an option to either log into an existing account, or enter details to register a new account (name and email address from memory). The username is then based off their name, with random characters added afterward.

Regards

Does that mean we'll start seeing new members with names like "IdontwanttoregisterIjusthaveaquestion1234" in the future?

So now we'll get a new member named "canyouchangemyusername4389"?

I should hope not, though, stranger things have happened. I believe (Zec can correct me if I am wrong) that the system uses the details the customer has entered...such as their first name, to make the username.
