What is a good texture for hills/MTS

Hi, im looking for a good texture for mountains along the Appalachian range. They are covered in trees and i dont think it will look as good if i just cover them in tree splines. Does anyone know a good texture for this. I saw a really good screen of Some KCS engines running past some really good mountains.

I had the same 'Appalachian hillside' problem on my East Kentucky routes. The required number of tree splines kills the frame rate dead and individual trees ain't much better. After playing around a lot trying to get textures that looked like trees I finally settled on a deliberately washed-out 'bland' look which simply frames the trains and foreground detail and forces attention where it is wanted - onto the trains and foreground.

That said - have a look at the fantastic detailed hillsides on the Reading routes from USLW. There is a bit of 'trickery' involved, but there are plenty of trees and pretty good framerates....
