I'm currently making a route and I want to know how to use industry on box cars and BR vans etc. I know how to do coal and oil etc just not box vans or vans thanks! :)

Assuming that you are making a steam era route with wagon-load freight you will firstly, need to identify "General Goods" enabled vans to make up you consists.

Most wagon load freight was carried from railway company goods shed to goods shed or to and from private warehouses or factories. Either way, search for industry enabled assets (Tafweb has made some excellent industry enabled factories and goods sheds) or use the Auran "multi-industry basic" with an ordinary (non industry) goods shed.

The set-up otherwise is the same as for coal and oil. Trackplate, I think, has an excellent route and session based on the West Somerset Railway that includes a pick-up goods task, well worth checking out to see how it all works.

The long wheelbase brown COV would be suitable. I think it has been around since the late 70,s, early 80.s and I,m using it myself at the moment. It carrys 3 general goods and the doors open and close revealing the goods inside when (un)loading. You can also configure other suitable vehicles in surveyor. I have done it with the little 2 axle conflat flat wagons.

Hi Robert

The kind of goods the 12ton vans usually carried was basically anything that must be kep dry and/or could be loaded by hand - or in later days by fork lift truck. Nowadays such things would arrive at your door or workplace by road carriers such as DHL or TNT but, until the 50s, rail was the main carrier. Don't feel as though you must fill your van either as rail carried l.c.l. (less than car load) freight or "smalls". A typical local goods train might have a van for each station along the route which was dropped off at wayside stations. From there you could either collect your items yourself or they would more likely be delivered in a railway road vehicle - horse and cart in the cities until the mid forties and then the familiar "mechanical horse" and trailer (made famous by Scammell, I think).
Those were the days!!!

Thankyou! All your comments helped me out alot :) Yeah I am making a steam era route. I'm using a Bluebell line route download and adding to it to make it as it was in its heyday:)
