Welsh flag request.

Hi everyone.

I’d like to have a Welsh flag that flutters (moves) and I was wondering if someone could please make it for me?

I would be very grateful is anyone can make this for me.

Thanks in advance.

Craig.

If no-one comes forward you could always re-skin an existing flag.

Check out soupystan (kuid 86859) on the DLS. He states, with all of his variously sized waving flags, that you can change them to one of your own, "any flag can be used - just cut-and-paste into flag.tga".

Make sure the early Trainz version button is checked.

Already a waving Welsh flag in existence, without looking on my route as on the wrong PC at present, it's either the one by belkenn or Zatovisualworks.

I've just done a quick re-skin of soupystan's 40 footer using the image in the OP.

Here's how it looks against soupystan's original. Also shown is the 20 foot US flag for comparison. There is also a in between sized 30 foot vertical version, and others (as shown on the DLS).

Hi Mezzoprezzo and Clam. Thanks for replying.

I've got the 40 foot flag and I've placed the TGA Welsh flag in to the config file, but it still show's the USA flag.

Do I need to remove the other TGA files?

Craig.

Hello Craig.

There are a few things you need to do.

First it's best to copy (or clone) the whole asset folder so that you have a completely new copy that you can experiment with. This leaves the original intact so that you can re-use it.

Then rename the copied folder using your kuid so that it will be unique, AND edit in your kuid on the config.txt kuid line. Both must be the same:

flagfolder.jpg

There are just two alterations needed in the config.txt file:

flagconfig.jpg

The Welsh flag image file needs to be placed in the asset folder, replacing the original:

flagfoldercontents.jpg

This is also important. When you prepare your Wesh flag image for use with the asset, it must be:
.
Sized at 256x128 pixels. (Anything different and it will either not show, or be broken up).
Saved as an uncompressed .tga file
Given the same file name as the original asset, i.e. flag.tga

Hope this works for you.

Cheers

Casper's method is correct for editing content before TRS2006. When I read this, I had flash backs to the earlier times. :)

With TS2010 that you are using, this is all done in Content Manager as you've already done.

What you want to do is name your welsh flag.tga to flag.tga to ensure that it will replace the US flag in the original when you copy it in.

You should also commit your new asset (flag object) once you are done editing so it will appear in the game. Otherwise it won't show up at all.

Also if you cloned the asset, make sure you are opening YOUR asset and not the old one! I've done that a number of times and it's one of those things that make senior moments quite memorable. :)

Hi John, I've done what you said, but it's still a USA flag. If I remove the original flag, it comes up as faulty after I commit it.

Been trying for almost 2 hours, feeling like screaming. (or crying :().

All you have to do is copy and paste the image in Irfanview onto the cloned waving flag, give the clone a new username line in the config file ... I once had a Pirate Skull & Crossbones, a Pennsylvania state flag, and an Auran cresent moon logo flag, all waving on a huge flag pole, that I custom positioned, and adjusted each ones height differently.

OK try this, I've just fired up 2010 to try this.

Resize the welsh flag to 256x128
Save as flag.tga

Clone the original flag in 2010
Open the now showing new asset for edit in explorer.
copy your created flag.tga into this folder replacing the original flag.tga.
Commit.
Test in game, works fine here.

No need to alter anything other than a straight swap of the image file.

Copy paste right over the cloned flag ... it can even be done in MS Paint if it is a jpg

Irfanview (free) "show paint dialog box" works great for this.

Hi everyone. Got it working. :D

Thank you all very much. I'm one happy Welsh bunny. ;)

May have a go at re-skining a loco or two tomorrow.

It's on the DLS. Make sure the TRS2004 box is checked.

Morning Casper.

Da iawn. Nawr don y faner!

Very well. Now wave the flag!

Almost spot on. I think you may have meant "very well done"? But Google translate is not 100% accurate.

I have a confession to make. I wanted the flag so that I could add it to the Conway castle I've got, but I forgot that it already has Welsh flags, but static.

Never mind, I'm sure I can find other uses for the flag.

Craig.

Hi Craig,

Here's a little suggestion: You could clone and reskin the castle to omit the flag by making any texture related to the flag and flagpole completely transparent, with Alpha=*texturename*.tga in the associated texture.txt file.

Then, use the flag reskins in place of the ones on the castle.

If you need help, give me the kuid of the castle you're using so I can take a look. :)

Kieran.
