weird lagging with one board in middle of route.

Today I've had to delete and remake one board right in the middle of a route due to such bad lagging when I tried to manipulate terrain. It was so bad that I could hardly move the cursor, eventually I deleted all objects and textures and went back to the bare grid - it STILL would not allow me to move around smoothly, a few feet away from the board , no issues.

When I deleted the board itself and inserted another , its back to normal. its version sp5 PE and its been bad enough to make me want to spit the dummy ! Its days like this that make me want to take up underwater knitting ... and I cant swim ! But anything is preferable to this sort of infuriating problem.

The only thing I could see that was different to normal was a faint duplicate offset grid pattern under the larger one, which came and went as I ran the paint brush with grid pattern over the terrain . That might be related to the use of both normal and PBR textures ? I've not been using pbrs further away from the track to save memory, given the route is stressing out my 12bgb 4070 card.

I've run into the same thing. It could be PBR textures. I noticed a big drop in performance when I upgraded an area to PBR from the old-fashioned 2d textures. I've since gone back to 2d textures when I run into them during my edits. PBR textures, no matter what video card you have, require a lot more processing and this is made worse with large routes. This may not be true for everyone, but this has been my observation as well.

I've also noticed a performance difference when going from old 10-meter grid sections to newer 5-meter grid sections. The increased work needed to render this terrain can also impact performance. In your case, like mine, this could be a combination of both causing a drop in performance like this.

In the past I've run into weirdness with baseboards. From an outward appearance, the baseboard looks fine, but no matter what we do there's something wrong. Deleting that troublesome baseboard, however, fixes the problem.

On days like this, I'll go off and sight-read some impossibly difficult piece written for piano then go back to Trainzing. It's one way to vent frustration!
