We need a driver command

That allows AI trains to run through a signal. For switching sidings that are signal and the AI won't enter because the cars that you want to switch are beyond the said signal. Can be really frustrating when you are trying to run one train and you have to go give the AI encouragment to complete there assinments.

Just a thought.

There are signals that allow locomotives to pass them on red when the locomotive is carrying out a run around or coupling to stock in a siding. I usually have to find them by trial and error as they vary depending on the region your route is based on. Hopefully someone will come along with a list of these "permissive" or "call on" signals that can be used. To complete a run around operation you could move the signal further away from the junction so that the locomotive will stop before it sees the signal and then change direction and couple up without a problem.

Place an invisible signal at the entrance of the track where your cars to be coupled are located. Make sure the signal you place there are "Permissive or 05 Type" signals.

I use the driver command "couple at trackmark." That allows an engine to pass any red signal that I have used in order to couple to a car or cars in siding or in a yard. Just put a trackmark near where the first car is and it works like a charm.

thank you for all the replies...I have always wondered about the "couple at trackmark" command. Does it matter where the trackmark is located???

Yes... at least this is what I have found. The trackmark has to be "in front" or "before" where the engine would reach the car it is going to couple to. (Of course this only makes sense!). But I have been able in a yard setup, to put a trackmark right after each junction. Then it really does not matter where the car(s) is on the track. It can be real close to the trackmark or 10 car lengths away and once the engine passes the trackmark, it will couple to the next car it comes to.

When I first attempted to do yard moves or to pick up cars from a siding, I fumbled too much with trying to figure out where the cars would be. With "couple at trackmark" you really don't need to be that precise, as long as you follow the rule above, it should work for you each time.

I hope I made sense here, I just woke up so I hope I was coherent enough to understand. LOL.

sounds perfect...most of the sidings and coal tipples have trackmarks on the sidings. It is just odd how sometimes the AI well have no problem passing red signals to get to cars in a yard and sometimes ... doing the exact same move on the same session ... it won't go beyond it .. or try to get to the car on an impossible route.

thanks for the help...i well surly give this a try

Hi

Have a look at "Permissive Trigger (UK)" kuid2:209453:99980:1 by saxham_market. It is on the DLS and may help with what you are wanting to do.

I have also used couple at trackmark successfully. Latest effort, stopped on the main, uncoupled 37 cars back, pulled into the interchange yard, dropped them on track1, ran around them on track 3 and coupled onto the original consist 41 cars distant back on the main. Once the engine gets through the signals, it travels at 5 mph until it couples, at which time the driver command completes and the next command starts.
