The water in the latest T:ANE beta looks really good:

Just depends on what part of the world you're in I guess. To me, a lake or river in a mountain wouldnt be that blue.

Geez, the route is Murchison 2006:

By incorporating landscape based on actual New Zealand

The picture in post #4 is a picture from New Zealand. There are more pictures on the net with water around New Zealand that color.

Most definitely agreed. I mean, just look at this:

Well it's certainly different.

I do have some problems with this image though.

Water colour is hugely influenced by the colour of the sky and sun elevation. Tropical seas look good because of this.

UK residents can see the difference between the cold greys skies and seas of winter with a very low sun, and the improvement we get in summer. The sea off Bournemouth can look remarkably blue on a sunny June day when the sun is high in the sky. It's still no match for the islands in the South Seas though.

If the sea colour in the posted image was correctly reflecting the sky colours, the whole image would look a lot more natural.

The other oddity is that the high rise buildings are shrouded in haze, yet the reflected image contains the high & low contrast of what is probably the original colour tones of the structures. If the landscape is foggy, then nature would reflect the same thing.

If those two things could be sorted out it would be a great improvement.

Well, I happened to be looking at the water in awe as I was working on my route, and I had happened to notice something odd. A building in my town had apparently had some rouge meshes, that I later found that you couldn't see except when in the walking cam or in water reflections. Mind you, I have contacted the author of the item that caused this, and it has been fixed, so this is unlikely to happen again. But the water can prove useful, it seems.

Around here at least, variety is a characteristic of most of the bodies of water that exist in the real world.

For example, New River often looks very muddy after after the early Spring rains...

... But during the drier autumn months, it can look totally different.

I was just thinking about the predominantly muddy waters of the eastern U.S. that exist throughout most of the year, except in the drier months, as you say. This will be interesting to create effectively...

I certainly hope that rapids will eventually be better than that included currently in the New River T:ANE example (Hinton).

One of the strong points of Trainz is the absolutely stunning natural beauty that can be achieved. Anything unnatural stands out...talk about setting the bar high!
