Warnings & Errors

Hi;
I have a lot of content in TS2010_SP2 that has warnings, but still works fine. Sometimes, it's the .pm files that are outdated, other times it's other minor issues that don't stop the content from working.

I'm curious as to whether or not I will gain anything by fixing such content; using Pm2Im to convert .pm to .im, deleting any unneeded files, etc.

My only issue is all the yellow warnings showing up in CM. I should probably just ignore them if the content works, but I like to clean up once in a while.

There has been some content with errors (and warnings) that I cannot fix, so I just delete them (they were downloaded) instead of spending time to fix them. But most of the time, I find that errant content can be fixed if you are willing to spend the time.

Just got to make sure I have saved everything that I have fixed, so I don't have to re-do it all if I have to re-install TS!

Thanks for any info/advice

I've gone through and fixed 99.99% of my bad content. There are about 35 items left that I can't due to scripting errors, which are beyond the scope of my abilities. There was also about 100 or so items that could not be fixed even though the fix was obvious. This was due to missing meshes and textures, which I could not replace.

For items that have warnings, I haven't fixed a lot of those, and I too wonder if it maybe worth it. Now with the PM2IM tool available, which wasn't before, the process should be less painless. Since there is no performance hit that I can see, I haven't bothered fixing these yet.

One thing I found is that a lot of the older content shows a warning for missing shadow mesh. For the content with body and shadow meshes, I can simply copy the shadow mesh from a similar object, but for the older ones, there are no meshes per se, so I just ignore them.
Sometimes I just remove the shadow object completely.
It seems that the shadows aren't in the correct place anyway, except at one particular time of day (they don't move with the sun), so I don't care to see them at all.

I have had a lot of trouble with some parts, such as the realsquash bogies, but have completely eliminated them, replacing them with the US3 bogey.

Sometimes I get pleasure from going through my content and fixing what's broken, but other times it's just tedious boring work:(
At least the older content still works in TS2010:)

I've replaced the bogies too with others that I felt were better, although I did repair the realsquash ones. The repair was pretty easy. ;)

The shadow mesh issue has been something I've been able to resolve using PEVSofts Quick Shadow utility. It makes the shadow.im file, then I use mesh-table information to point to the shadows. As far as offset and location, I don't care either if the shadow exists or not for the same reason. Unfortunately the issue is caused by hard-modeling the shadow instead of using environmental effects to create it, which is the more up-to-date way of doing things.

I too spend fits and phases fixing these problems, and like you it depends up on whether I feel like it or not. Eventually I'll dig through the warnings, and hopefully before Auran decides that they become errors and no longer warning messages.

BUILT IN ITEMS

What about built in items..My Norton buildings # 4 & 5 do not show up in survayor..there is no errors or warnings showing..These are my items made way back when and I can't fix them..So I might have to load them into the game with a new Kuied

I don't see any meshes included with those assets, mrmom. I do a fair amount of content fixing and have seen assets that don't require a mesh, but I wish I could remember them so I could figure things out. I think (but am not sure) that you can create a 3D asset without a mesh - obviously Trainz doesn't need one. Let me poke around a bit.
