If you use Firefox there is an addon called Noscript which can block java or allow to run on a website if you want. For details check the Mozilla Firefox addon site.

In Win7 and Internet Explorer 9, it's;

-Tools
- Manage Add-ons
- All Add-ons (it's under the 'Show' heading, bottom left)
- Look for anything in the list beginning with Java and select it
- Disable
- Close

In my case, it seems I didn't have Java to begin with!

Thank you for the warning. There will be web sites and applications which will need it, however, so you'll need to turn it on as needed.

Oracle is growing too fast by acquisition and not paying attention to the products it already has.

Java having security holes is as common as water being wet.. This will only ever affect anyone if you happen to go to a site that has the exploit sitting in the backend waiting for you.. ie: You won't get magically hacked visiting CNN one day.. You will get hacked if you get an email setup to lure you into clicking a site that is setup to exploit the Java venerability and actually click it. Your best defense on the internet is common sense..

thanks for the warning but,I have a slight little problem,which java software should be turned off,reason being,if I turn off the wrong type,my computer would run the risk of being hacked,any help on how to do this without messing up my computer again,thanks!

If in doubt, uninstall any Java from your control panel. It usually appears in the alphabetical list as Java, though some old versions might appear under Sun Java.

Java, along with Flash, are by far the greatest software vulnerabilities out there. Although Styckx has a good point in that the vast majority of hacks involve social-engineering attacks.

Totally uninstalling Java from your PC "Programs and Features" is the easiest way ... and if down the road, you go to a State or Bank webpage that says you must have Java to read this ... Java is easy enough to re-install down the line.
