Want a free web site?

Johnk

Boarded October 2001
As part of my new Directory project, I can offer a few free web sites to any member who wishes to create and maintain his or her own site. I can supply an easy to use site building program which enables you to create and maintain your site from home without any past experience. I'd like a couple of volunteers to evaluate how easy the program is to use while they build their site. I'll assist you every step of the way, but there are a few provisos.
  • You must have a reason for wanting to create a site (Downloads, tutorials, etc)
  • The material must be ready. No Coming Soon notations accepted.
  • You must be able to speak and write English (SMS speak not accepted)
  • You must be mentally mature enough to understand instructions and follow them. Age is not an issue.
  • You must know how to use a graphics editor like IrfanView or PhotoShop to crop, resize and resample images.
In return, I'll supply at no cost:
  • The hosting service - ad free except for a link to my site.
  • The program to create your site.
  • Tuition via email.
Any takers?
Current Geocities site holders welcome.

although I already have a site; I am willing to create a "dummy" site and give you feedback on how easy the program is and such. If you want...

Hi Guys. Thanks for the offer. I won't answer every post, I'll just let the thread roll on for a day or so, cause it's still the wee small hours in many places. I'm hoping there's enough people from Geocities or new starters to get this off the ground, then people like yourselves are welcome to join in and help with feedback. The program I have in mind is Namu6. It's pretty basic, so if you know of something better, please let me know. I personally use WYSIWYG Web Builder, but it's aimed at people who do a lot of designing. Namu6 is more for the one-off site builder.

Well, you all (may) know that I am off the Trainz scene, however, would it be possible to get one of your sites for other purposes (I know questions ;), a: Yes there is some content ready and b:It's for royalty free music hosting)?

Guys, with the exception of jammydodger, nobody but, nobody has stepped forward. With geoCities closing down shortly I would have thought there would have been some interest, but not a scrap. There's no use me pushing any further, so I'll thank you both for offering to help and I'll move on.

Thanks again. John

Im sure when it does shut there will be more interest in this, maybe its just that not many people know about it shutting down at the moment,

before i read this thread i didn't know either, and with only arround 150 views (with some probably from the same people) there is a big chance that not many people know,

I would start the testing now and have it ready for when it closes

I accept your comment wholeheartedly, then there will be a rush. Phil, my hosting service provider has just installed a rather interesting web site creator which is probably similar to the one used by Freewebs. This takes away a lot of the FTP issues, so I really need to give it a good going over. I tried creating a site last night but the image uploader didn't want to work. I had no problems inserting a header, but I couldn't place images in the HML body. If you have a little time on your hands, I'll create a work space for you and maybe you can play with it. I'll be doing so when I get a moment to spare. I'm also sure there'll be some documentation around somewhere, but that's also on the to-do list.
