Hello, my son has the "Trainz Ultimate Collection" version of TrainZ, which, i believe, is approximately 6-7 years old and is no longer supported by Auran's help desk - he now got a vista machine, and we were wondering whether there exists a free patch/upgrade of that version for vista (in particular, the "Model Railway" software of that same collection won't run at all since it apparently needs version 8 of DirectX, which currently is in its version 10).

Hi,

I presume you are referring to Ultimate Trainz Collection (UTC not TUC)....

There is only one service patch for this here:

However this will not fix your problem!

A couple of things you might like to try.

In Vista you need to run Trainz as administrator. There are loads of threads about this on the forums giving details.

Re the DirectX issue. In theory DirectX10 should run DirectX8 applications however this may not be the case in practice. You could try running under OpenGL instead.
