Valley Railroad(Essex Steam Train)

Hey, i'm just happy one more iron horse gets to do what she's designed to do. I'm guessing she's canadian, from the number, but i'm probably wrong. What railway's she from? I mean, common carrier, not another tourist line.

PS, you guys should buy the old Bonhomie and Hattiesburg Southern 2-6-2 No. 250 off Edaville. Her being there disgusts me. She worked into the 1960's and that's what she gets? And don't think cause she's a logging prarie and has drive wheels the size of dinner plates that she can't pull anything. I've got video of her hauling some 20 mill gons loaded with pulpwood and HAULING in the process. She deserves that again.

Can you tell i like her? :D I fell in love with her when i was six and saw that video of her.

sorry for the digression.

She is actually not Canadian I don't believe. She was bought from the Knoxville and Kane(they suffered a fire in the shop/roundhouse) So they were selling some of the locomotives that were damage(2 of them I believe? 3025 and an ALCO Mikado I think, with 3025 having the most severe damage out of the two) She was built in 1989 in China. They later got bought either by a logging company in the US or some tourist line(3025 and her sister) Later the VRR bought 3025s sister and actually ran her for a short while then suddenly sold her. Now they bought 3025 and know exactly how it should perform and how it should be since they have had one already. However this will most certainly be a one of a kind locomotive when it is done.

I am sure that if our shop was bigger then a 2 bay 1 track shop they would have more locomotives, as of right now they are over crowded as it is unfortunately. Servicing steam locomotives(97,40, and 3025 all around the same time is difficult) 97 will no longer be in service after this season since it needs it 1,472 day inspection and will be ripped apart taking up valuable shop space to service 3025,40,0901,and 0900 along with all the coaches and Pullmans that need to be inspected each year... There has been talk about kicking the walls of the shop out to cover another track, however it has been spoken about but most likely never will happen.

Ah, space problems. We got the same problem down here in Grapevine Texas. As of now though we dont even have a running steam engine. SP 2248 had been out of servine since 08, cylinder blew on the left side. She had been up and running again, and I cant remember what part exactly, but they couldnt get steam to the cylinders, and are considering to send her somewhere to get fixed, even strausburg. But yep, even with one engine (technaly two inside there is also a 3ft former 0-4-0T now 2-4-4 forney in there as well) it can get cramped in the little 1 track "shop" we have.

Gandalf, i get it. Actually, now that i think about it, i heard in the Tourist Railroad Rumor Mill that the 3025 got sold. Didn't know where though. And don't worry, 250's good at least for now. Hopefully she gets a chance to get a fire in her iron belly again...Maybe when i win the lottery i'll just buy her and put her in my backyard. Build a mile-long loop and steam her around for my own amusment;)

SPNGtyler, wow, i heard that "Puffy" (by the way, worst steam engine knickname i've heard) was back. I even saw a picture of her running with her fireman's side cyinder cover off, but she was running. So, you're saying someone didn't put pipe A in hole B and steam gets to the cylinder? How hard is it to do that:hehe:

All joking aside, hopefully the two of 'em get to run again. Good luck on the restoration(s). :D

I know. Down here, if you knew about it when it was still called "Tarantulla" you either call it that or just 2248. Names aside, it wasent the cylinder this time. All I know is that when my friend was there(I still havent seen it, havent been able to get over there) the steam dome was off, and they were lookin at the insides from there. Its some componant in there or somethin, I dont remember what he said it was. Its something that should have been checked when she was down for the cylinder, but no one did(Thanks alot grapevine and your bare bone budgets). So now, she is in worse shape then she was after Thanksgiving of 08. Hopefully tho this will mean she gets a very much needed restoration instead of runnin herself to death.

Enjoy!

Great Pictures, Mike. Next best thing to actually being there.

Bill
Yes very much so:) I have made some progress on the route after being burned out over trainz. I am within rock throwing distance of the Hadlyme station, which is where the normal train stops and gets shoved back to Deep River. Soon will be able to run the normal route. The dinner train run will take a little longer still because..well its farther away still:hehe: I got a lot more pictures I will post tomorrow!

BTW Bill, our friend was on TV a week or so ago welcoming a massive cruise ship to New London.

I saw that video. He sent me the whole news report and I culled out his appearance. He's a pretty busy guy. Has his fingers in everything 'tourist' around the whole area.

Great pictures. There is something about #97 that bothers me though. The tubing right at the front of the smokebox seems a bit thin in circumference, and there aren't any running boards projecting over them on your model.

Here is a picture George sent me of #97 in winter.

Note the white-trimmed running boards. The whole boiler/firebox seems to sit a bit lower also.

This is my desktop picture too.

Thanks for pointing that out Bill. I know there are a few inaccuracies....Unfortunately the model is not mine, just a simple reskin of an existing 2-8-0 consolidation from subpar productions. If you look hard enough you will also notice on #40 the steam domes aren't in the right places compared to the real locomotives.

Definitely not being critical. I realize that to make it accurate to every detail you'd have to do it yourself. I can't imagine any two road engines of the same class being identical in every way - even for the same RR line.

Yea it really is hard to find 2 locomotives exactly alike. Even if they were exactly a like at 1 point in time it is likely they are no longer that way due to various things...Maybe when I need a break from surveyor I will toy around with the texture maps and see if I can at least get the white stripe in there somehow.
