Validating... Again?

The "the tag 'image' in '0' points to nonexistant file.jpg" is a missing thumbnail. On my install this shows as a warning, which doesn't matter as the asset will still run in game. If it is an error, open for edit in explorer, check the config file for the jpg image size (usually 240*180) and either find a jpg file and resize to the required size in PaintNet (free) and name it as per the name in config.txt, and then click and drag into the root of the asset. If a jpg file is present in the root folder of the asset, just edit the config.txt entry to the correct name.

You can find a tutorial on fixing the sound files here:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?107367-Fixing-Sound-File-Errors-in-HF4

For the texture errors you will need Pev's Images2TGA tool, which you can get from Shane's website.

Then, Edit>Commit.

Although they are quite easily fixed, on a large number of files this can take a long and boring time, so I would suggest ignoring warnings and just doing the errors.

Thanks for the advice Ken.
Every time I start wanting to learn how to fix errors like these I get sidetracked so quickly and when I look again - guess what - I am playing with my trains :)
Got to really give it a full go now...

Peter and Shane,

Thank you for the observations on the validation process. That makes sense to me too. I practiced the piano again today. :)

G'day, trainz (TS12 61388) was having trouble seeing updated kuid2 versions so I did an EDR, that fixed that problem but I thought I would look at what errors would show up as you often get false positives, bad mistake, TS12 then decided to do a validation of several thousand assets even though it had just done a EDR which should have already done that. How dumb is this and all the time you cannot use the game. So after the validation there was over 150 faulty so I highlighted them all and clicked on "view errors and warnings" and wallah only 11 remained, so what use was the validation, it solved nothing, it did not get rid of the false positives and wasted my trainz time. Come on N3V how about the patch/hotfix to fix up TS12 as am getting very tired of this validation c--p as well as the delete assets not working in route edit to name just a few.

Has there been a cause identified that triggers these validation events? I've been on version 3.7 (build 61388) for quite some time now and have yet to experience these.

As of now, I show All assets at 318627, Installed at 54125 and My Content at 1764. There are warnings for 3924 assets, and the faulty are 307.

Could it have anything to do with the number of Installed assets? I only have 16.9% so do I have validation but lasting so short a time I don't notice?

G'day, well just to add insult to injury CM is now telling me that a whole lot of assets that were OK before all this are now missing dependencies, really they are not as there are kuid2 higher versions there but it seems to want the lower version which once installed is immediately obsoleted so how dumb is that. So it seems getting rid of the obsolete is a waste of time as if you have to do a database repair the manure will hit the fan and all your good work will be straight out the window. At this point I am really cheesed of with trainz and N3V which it seems does not care about TS12 any more as T2 is on its way but if they have the same attitude with it as with other trainz versions we will have a bumpy ride again.

EDIT:- a screen shot just to show this is not BS.

I too have many misgivings regarding N3V as well. Don't get me started...!

It is the other way around ;)

@ Gremlin:
So you have missing dependencies. That means you either still have to download them or they are not on the DLS at all. Lookup the kuids, google them, see what pops up.

guys, look closely at the dependencies box. it shows that it is missing no dependencies, none are unkown, and no sub-dependencies are missing. in other words, all of the deps have been captured. that is a false reading of mds.

I would not go blind on that box. It might be true, it might be bugged. I would add that route to your download list again and see what pops up (or in this case, lists as not found) and take it from there.

G'day All, yes tried putting it in the download window but nothing downloaded, the way I fixed it was to open for edit and then commit but that would be no good if it was multi-player (I don't use MP so does not worry me) the thing that mystifies is a validation occurred and did not find that there was NO missing assets?????
It would seem TS12 and it's CM has a similar mentality to N3V in that it does not care about the users experience.
