Validating... Again?

Trainz Entry Level
OK so I installed HF4 some time ago and I understood, after it was explained to me, that it needed to go through and validate the sound files. Sort of.

But now in the last couple of days it seems to have kicked off another round of validating. WTH?

It is telling me that it has some 12000 plus files it wants to validate. WTH?

How often is it going to do this?

It would be nice to actually be able to use the game, if it ever stops validating things.

Does it?

Edit I guess I'll leave it up overnight since it won't finish before morning at the current rate. Grrrr!!!

Hi Norm,

I've noticed this too and was going to inquire about it. This happens way too often and when the content validates, the performance in driver is horrific. You can work in Surveyor fine, but try to drive and you may as well as close up and go to bed as you've said.

I have the distinct feeling this validating has all to do with the multiplayer option added some time ago and the fact local assets need to be the same as on the DLS. If this is the case a switch to disable multiplayer and the validating for this purpose for those who don't use it ever would be a first start...

Greetings from overcast Amsterdam,

Dont think it's Multiplayer as I don't have any multiplayer sessions installed, it seems to be doing this validation on first launch of the day, I'm more inclined to think it's related to the DLC DRM, or is it something to do with updates? Not taking that long here though, about 10 to 15 minutes, still annoying though. It's also going into validation when you have downloaded and installed the updates.

The validation after installing updates is to be expected as TrainzUtil has to check the newly downloaded assets for any faults.

Did you remove the built-in multiplayer session on the Debrechen route?
If not, you do have at least 1 multiplayer session.

Forgot that one, I honestly have zero interest in Multiplayer, I doubt that has 4000 plus assets to validate though, having checked it doesn't, 835 Route dependencies and 122 for the MP Session. Could be it's validating both Multiplayer and DLC though?

TS12 58414 is not doing any validation on starting, haven't run this particular install for some time as it's actually a forgotten about backup on another PC.
Testing updates on 58414, a lot of them, validation completed within a few seconds of the last download being installed.
61388 carried on validating for over 5 minutes after the last item was installed.

Therefore I surmise that HF4 has done something detrimental to the validating process.

Hey Guys & Gals,

As an official Lurker, I have come to this conclusion;

There is no single reason for the "excess validating", I believe that it varies from user to user and
also that some users seem to generate more than their share of "issues".
I have had T12 HF4 since it became available, yes, there were some .wav files to fix, yes, validating took a while, but not too bad as I have a Quad Core machine.
Also, something I have noticed is that I have "problems" usually when I try to go too fast with the keyboard or with mouse clicks.

I realize that the above does not solve anyones problems, however I hope it sheds a bit of "light" on a very complicated subject.

Waiting impatiently,

Dave

Depends on the asset type, either way all assets are treated the same when it comes to validation. For those who upgraded from 49922 or lower, it also includes the texture checks.

The validating, indicated in the process window, seems to update the dependency tree and/or the version history of the objects.
- Imported a .cdp file, containing several objects, without committing.
- 8 of the imported assets were obsolete.
- Deleted the 8 obsolete assets.
- Result: more than 5000 assets to validate. Average time to validate an object > 2s econds.
