Using TLR with Industry Link (a tip for making it work)

The only way I could get it to work correctly was to have an industry that receives the raw goods and then have Industry Link send them to a dummy industry for processing and then have Industry Link send the final products to a pickup industry.

For example:
I have industries called Crude Oil (drop-off), another called Crude Oil (processing), and finally, one called Fuel (pickup).

The drop-off industry only has one queue which accepts Crude Oil but, as soon as it arrives, Industry Link shoots it over to Crude Oil (processing).

Crude Oil (processing) is not connected to any line and has four queues called Crude Oil, Petrol, Diesel and Avgas.
This dummy industry is what has the processes to produce Petrol, Diesel and Avgas.
Industry link will transfer these final products to Fuel (pickup).

Fuel (pickup) has three queues; one each for Petrol, Diesel and Avgas.

One thing to note is that TLR DOES NOT appear to recognise that the drop-off industry requires a product unless you have a process that uses what arrives (i.e. just moving it out using Industry Link is not sufficient). In the above example, I have a process running in the drop-off industry that consumes 1000 units on the hour, but Industry Link moves the product for processing to the dummy industry well before the hour has expired.

On a final note, the above setup was done using JR Multi industry II <kuid2:45324:400001:8> and Industry Link <kuid:122381:10007> and I have had them running for several hours with TLR and no issues (so far).

I hope all that has made some sense (and helps someone).

Cheers.

A couple of things I forgot to mention in the original post was "Why the need for a dummy industry?"

I found that if you have just the two industries configured with Industry Link, it (TLR) does not behave correctly; for example...

Having Crude Oil drop-off with four queues (i.e. Crude Oil, Petrol, Diesel and Avgas) and let the drop off do the processing, I found that even though I only had it configured to drop-off crude and load nothing, TLR (for some reason) always thought there was Petrol, Diesel and Avgas available and would send consists there to load them and never tried to load then from the pickup industry.

And lastly "Why is the dummy industry not connected to any other track?"
Simply put, if it's not connected, TLR dispatcher will never be able to get there.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

Damn it... I also forgot to say to disable the dummy industry in TLR dispatcher.

I seem to have a problem with Industry Link , not picking up the product from JR Multi Industry II.
It recognizes the industry them self's, but not the product.

What is showing up in TLR for that industry?
Does it have a corresponding industry in the TLR list that is using the product from that industry?
If so, is that corresponding industry within range of the main industry?

Cheers

Have changed my track layout.....which looks better then it was. this route that I am working on , has gone thou several changes.
What I want to do is unload containers and load General Goods.
Have 3 industries called...
Container T1 which is the Unload Area
Container Processing
Container T3 which is the Load Area
---------------------------------------------
The problem I seem to have is how do I program each industry...

How do I get the industry Link to recoginse the product.

I think found out what is wrong...Trainz is NOT saving the changes that I make in the session of my route.

So for TLR, this is what you would need to do....
  1. Set Container T1 to unload only and have it consume 1 container every 24 hrs (or every couple of hours)
  2. Set Container T3 to load only and have it produce 1 General Goods every 24 hrs (or every couple of hours)
  3. In the Container processing industry, you will need to have 2 queues, one for Containers, and one for General Goods
  4. Set up the processing in this industry so Containers produce General Goods (e.g. 1 Container produces 5 General Goods)
  5. In dispatch manager, disable the Container Processing industry (which should be on a track NOT connected to any other track)
  6. Finally, using Industry Link, transfer the Containers from T1 to Container Processing and the General Goods from Container Processing to T2
Hope that all makes sense.

TLR is a bit of a funny buggar at times so don't expect the consist to go from T1 to T3 straight after if finishes unloading (even if your rolling stock supports both Containers and General Goods)

Thanks for the reply....will give a try.
item 1 unloads 1 car every minute
item 2 loads 5 general goods every 2 minutes
item 3 yes
item 4 yes
item 5 need to do dispatch manager / container processing is isolated
item 6 done

now all I need to do is test it out.

Also thanks for the tip... the Loco will de-couple and go else where...

Glad I could help out

The dispatch manager is a bit of a funny beast.
If you don't have a process that consumes a product on an industry it assumes it never needs a product.
The same goes for producing, if an industry doesn't produce a product the dispatch manager assumes there will never be anything to pick up.

This has been what I have experienced anyway, hence why TLR requires step one and two.
Setting the consumption/production process on an industry to a long time period fools the dispatch manager and the industry link does all the rest for you.

Colin

On the picture on my previous post, the Right side of the photo will unload the 40ft containers without a problem.
BUT, the left hand side WILL NOT.!?
Have made sure that both side are the same as in programing.

Why would the 40ft container unload AND YET the 20ft container will not.?

Can you post pictures of how your left side industry is set up?
While I was getting the screenshots for you, I notice a discrepancy in container T3 & T1. So I deleted them and replaced them.
Also Changed the 20ft containers with another 20ft containers, I have 3 on the list. Tried the top one(did'nt work). the bottom one (did'nt work). So I tried the middle and it worked. !?

There must be a difference to them all.

Another also.. :-) you are correct about Trainz being fussy..... after the wagons were unloaded, I moved it from T1 to T3 and it refused to load.....Fussy bugger. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
