Using Portals

Although I'm using TRS 2006 at the moment this problem of mine could apply to any of the other Trainz I have.I have no problem exporting a train to a portal but when I try to import one, I just can't.I give the driver a command to go to a certain trackmark and he sets off but when approaching the first signal at the portal he stops and reverses and then disappears.I've tried controlling it myself and the same thing happens. What am I missing, please.Would it work any better using SCS2006?

Hi Harold, one thing you might do is to move the signal a little further away from your portal. Let try this first.

I agree, certainly more than the length of your longest train. When I first tried using portals trains came out but then ground to a halt. It takes a little while to work out how to set them up and you will need to select your train type.

Always allow the full length of any consist to exit a portal before it has any signals, junctions etc. You may also find it better not to use the same portal for incoming and outgoing trains as this sometimes will cause the portal to fail if it conflicts with two trains. Use the in portal and send any consist back via the out portal.

Hi Angelah & Guys, Iv'e had a think overnight and just had another look at the problem. Its a double track portal and both tracks have Entry Portal sign above them.My incoming track should have incoming portal, I think .Am I right?

Morra . They all show portal entry and portal end. May I suggest you use portal manager or cpc portal control in the rules command edit. D/L if you have to,altho I think it comes with 06. Not sure haven't used 06 since 09 came out. Make sure that you follow previous advice. When you use cpc, switch out produce trains. If you do have junctions close to portal, make sure they are switched properly before going into driver otherwise AI will stop and !!!!

How do you enable a train to go in one routes portal...and inturn send it to a totally separate route on your PC...so that the same train is waiting there for you on the newly opened route, ready to continue running ?

Is there a "rule" to download, or enable ?

Hi,

If fixing the track length doesn't help, here's another thought: What is the terrain like at the portal? I had a route where a portal was inclined uphill, and a train would come up/out, lose power, and slip back in. Once I leveled out the area trains emerged normally.

I used "Iportal Tunnel" and it worked great...I sent a train from one of my other routes into the tunnel, and closed that route. When I opened up my "New Route" one minute later the same train now emerged from the new route "Iportal".

This means that I can now divide my Massive PRR Horseshoe Curve DEM route into many, many seperate routes...and send trains up the East Slope into the Tunnehill Tunnels...close that route...and open up the West Slope route and the same train now emerges from the West Slope-Galitzin Tunnels.

IM me if you need information how to do this: Iportal thing

I'm definitely having one of those days.I've tried moving the signal but the track moves with it as well. The other problem is the signal in front is only a block in front. I've even cleared the junction in front. Also where do you find these iportals to add to your route. I've seen them mentioned in other routes but I've been looking on the D/L Station and I can't find any. I'm obviously looking in the wrong place Just as a matter of interest the route I'm trying is"TL Blade's S&DJR route" coming from Bristol. So if anyone once to try it they might see where I'm going wrong

The big difference between Iportal and Portal is: with an Iportal the emeging train can be set to automaticly continue driving all on its own on AI...but with Portals the train stops as a default and requires you to assign a driver and start it running again.

I've finally found the problem, Me!. If only I had thought a bit more about I should have checked the manual and realised the portals had a "properties page. Of course the importing portal was set to consume instead of producing trains. I've a quick check and it seems to work ok now. I'm sorry I wasted other members time over this.
