Using Couple Command

While in Driver mode I have been attempting to use the couple command to attach to some cars on an industrial branch. The train seems to be going under 5 mph when it is coupling and still the train derails each time. I use signals at every junction and it has to pass a three-light dwarf signal before coupling. The signal is red when it passes. Would that cause the AI to make the train derail? The signal will not turn green obviously because there is already a train in the block. What am I doing wrong?

At less than 5 mph there will be some lurch backwards - are you backing into the end of line? We can't see the end of the track in the photo but is there enough clearance to make this maneuver? Also make sure there is an end of line marker for the AI on the end of that pickup track (some are in the form of bumpers [in USA dialect]).

As far as I know that red icon button is always there no matter what. Not even sure how to get rid of it. I have heard of that other command but in a route as large as this one (Sand Patch Route) , putting a track mark every place where I might possibly couple to something would take days or weeks. If I really had to, I suppose I would.

The line does end but there is more than enough room for this movement. The line ends on the other end of the sawmill. I use both a bumper and a D1 red board sign. As common as a movement like this is in Trainz, I think it should be a lot simpler to do by now.

I assumed you've checked for a split track spline. We should look for things that make an entire consist derail. I have no experience with it. Try increasing the derailment tolerance to none in the environmental settings. If it still derails @ 5 mph, try a different consist. If it still happens, the problem lies beyond the track and the train. When not knowing what causes a problem, systematically experiment with process of elimination and/or substitution.

Thanks for your response and advice. I will try looking into all of that and then get back to you with what I find. I like keeping things realistic with derailments being on but maybe they are just too realistic and over sensitive.

Okay the problem is solved. I had too many rules going on that were preventing me from doing a trouble-free couple. I turned off the Bad Driver Rule and Realistic Derailments. So if anyone else has had this problem, now you know what to do!
