USB Problems

Ben1337

Trainz operator
I've been trying to transfer some Content that was built onto trainz railway simulator 2006 that i've put onto my USB stick onto my C drive.

But it says
ERROR Copying File or Folder
Cannot copy file:
I don't know why it's not copying because my C drive has got 22.4GB of free space and my USB can only hold 4GB.:(

Plus the computer doesn't display a reason for my problem.

I've also checked the propertys of the folder and I can't seem to uncheck the
read only
box but it won't let me.:'(

Got any iders?

If it is read-only, then you will not be able to copy it. If it is built-in, then why do you wish to copy it anyway?

If it is not built in, and you are running TRS2006, then you probably need to make the item "edit in explorer" in CMP first.

Built-in content wont be copied as it is all contained in the .ja files. Copy these and you have all the built-in content. Content in the Local folder can be copied.

I need to copy it because it was built-into TRS06 as I've said and I did "edit in explorer" and copy the folders them selves. but sense I've got TC3 I need to import it into TC. And I had uninstalled TRS2006 sense I thought that I won't need it.

and The reason that I had put it onto my USB was so that I could get the route easily if I had reformatted my computer. Which I did before I went on holiday.

The content on your USB drive could possibly be corrupted. It does happen, though rarely. That's one possible explanation...

Chris

If the content corrupts then would all of the content in the USB corrupt?

if so then I had a route packed in as a CDP and that extracted perfectly.

Actually I already knew that. I'm just worried about extracting files from my USB stick and onto my C drive because I've got something really important on there.

Hi,

It will not make any difference if the content/files on your USB drive have the read only attribute, you should still be able to copy them to your C drive, I have done this many times before. It just means that you will not be able to edit/change/modify the content/files in any way.

If you can not copy something from a source disk, whatever that may be, it usually means that it could be corrupted in some way. It could be that when you copied the content/files to the USB drive they did not finish correctly. Try scanning the USB drive for errors, or try using another USB port.

I have seen that before, one USB port would not copy something but another one did, strange but true.

How can I scan for errors?

Benleet

Simple, with the USB drive in the computer, go into My Computer, right-click on the drive and select Properties, select the Tools tab, then under error checking click the Check Now button.

This will do a check of the drive and make sure that everything is ok.

It is possible for one file/folder on any drive to corrupt, while the rest are fine. The drive scan should tell you if there are any problems with the file/folder, or the USB drive itself...

Chris

There are some option boxes in the scan box. Check both of these and windows will try and fix any errors it finds.

WARNING: depending on the size of the disk, this may take a while to do!:)

Thanks. Ill tell you how it goes.:D

Later: I've found out the problem: The file:World origin won't copy.

And yes. I think that it's a corrupted file in the USB Because I can copy other files but not that one.
