Only in Highland Valley...

More awesomeness on the fall-ified, updated, and generally hacked, cut, and pasted to death Highland Valley 2004 (Highland Division of the Williams Bay and North Western )

Staring out of the fireman's side window of an ex-Utah Belt Int. Car Co. Wide-Vision caboose (impulse-bought on sale from RRMods :hehe: don't ya just love that?) as an up-bound taconite train snakes by the sand-extra powered by breaking-in SP Mt-4 "Skyliner" Class 4-8-2 No. 4350. In Case you're wondering how long that taconite train is...

I like that idea... so I had to give it a try myself... (don't ask me how that train made it from Minnesota to California and now eastbound again with its taconite load still steaming...)

16800 hp on the head end...

Nice!! I love to see pics of people enjoying those cars. I agonized for hours over every little detail, what I could include, what to leave off. Some of that time was spent learning 3ds - but man - huge amounts of obsessive time.

116 - through 120 cars for a modern taconite consist. On my always in progress ore layout it's a major hassle to manage that many cars. Slightly less for a steam-era consist if it was pulled by a Yellowstone - I have those cars coming soon!! Amazing to think that one Yellowstone can do what several diesels do now - but a hassle to deal with those engines - actually mostly the tenders. Turning, and manipulating the tenders. The DMIR and other roads had to build special 'Y' tracks for turning, new maintenance facilities, etc. Just going through images recently from the Missabe Historical association from that era - the facilities, ore cars, scenery looks strangely modern until you see the steam engines.
