Great shots guys, really nice stuff there!

And about what CSX stands for, I read in Trains magazine that it stands for Chesapeake, Seaboard, X-which is supposed to be the multiplication sign, meant to say "and so much more". Sounds kind of corny. ;)

LIRR MP15AC's 159 & 172 lead one of the Long Island's last freight trains eastbound through Floral Park.

where did u find that LIRR MP15AC's 159 & 172?

CSX 11 car coal train just left the mine(yet to be made;) ) loaded down to the brim with coal.
fall6.jpg

An old CN box car is hiding behind a few trees up ahead....
fall7.jpg

As we grow closer we pass the trees blocking the box car from full view,we now see the box car and its sitting on some rail that you need a tetnus shot from looking at it.
fall8.jpg

Rounding a bend
fall9.jpg

Coming up on some more old abandoned CN box cars, these things seem to be littering the landscape now-a-days...
fall10.jpg

Even though the engineer has passed by these box cars many times before he still slows down because there is little room to spare as we pass them.
fall11.jpg

Continuing on past the box cars, and you can see what was left of the old CN line,I guess CN didn't feel like getting these box cars....
fall12.jpg

About to cross a river,I climb in the cab for this as I don't really feel like swimming along side.Looking at the beutiful water fall.
fall13.jpg

The engineer stopped the train and let me run across the bridge to get this shot.

I got this picture from an old man in a fishing boat a little down river that I didn't see at the time.
fall15.jpg

Rounding the final bend before we reach the junction towards town.
fall16.jpg

Approching the junction, you can see the other 2 tracks coming from a yard a little bit aways from here.
fall17.jpg

The train crawls up to the red and awaits for clearance.
fall18.jpg

Well thats all for now.

Excellant Shots Gandalf0444

Awesome shots,

Where did you get the derlict CSX loco? It looks exactly like the one that works the Sandyville yard that I see on the way to work.:udrool: :mop:

btw CSX doesn't appear to take good care of yard locos.:(

Gandalf:
Very nice story! Although highly unproto, since a C40-8 on 11 cars? i'd expect that on a 7.5% grade, but eh, whatever.
I see you had quite the sceniking abilities, especially with tha abandoned bridge there, looks good. i'd like to ask how you did that.
Cheers.
Sean

LOL Thanks guys! I just choose the C40-8 because it looked the most like a rust bucket:p
@LVman lets take this to pm shall we so not to take away fromt he thread...
Now for more pics!
The loco from yesterday must have returned late at night last night, due to the fact its now back with some clinchfield cars...It tied up just outside the mine,on the track they use to run around the train..
fall19.jpg

The beast comes alive and begins to head towards the mine to get loaded down with coal yet again...
fall20.jpg

We come closer to the loading facility, and you notice a platform, this is where they unload equipment that the mine requires. The crane is to lift the big pieces of mining equipment off the train.Such as bulldozers etc...
fall21.jpg

Starting under the coal shoots, notice the new excavator waiting to be put to work for the first time.
fall22.jpg

We begin pulling away from the mine, and the crane begins to fade into the distance....
fall23.jpg

I hope back in the cab for a bit as its very weedy around this part..
fall24.jpg

I hope back out of the cab and run ahead abit to get this shot, and as you can see the new shift for the mine is starting to arrive.
fall25.jpg

Another shot from the same area but a close up of the loco, passing the former school bus that now carries miners...
fall26.jpg

Passing by the old man's house,a nice chevy truck in his driveway,he must have been a truck driver at one point, due to the cab over parked in his driveway.
fall27.jpg

<continued>
Coming up on another unprotected crossing, before the old man's house. If you ask me,who ever designed this way to get to the mine is dumb..
fall28.jpg

Now coming to an old fashioned crossing, more trucks heading to the mine towards the left,a lot of junk left around the crossing, like that bulldozer...
fall29.jpg

Now we come back up to where we started from yesterday,so I'll hop back onto the train so we can get the heck out of this bug infested place.
fall30.jpg

Thats all for now!
