On this cool spring like day...The clouds threatened rain...But we knew it was going to rain sometime today but was hoping it was not going to when we were taking pix....We then headed for town and when we got there the clouds opened up and it began to rain.....Shooting in the rain now we heard off in the distance an echo of a horn...We then set up all our gear and waited patiently for todays train to show up.....Then out of the blue a good 'ol lonely BN patched WC unit pops into the picture with todays revenue

I figured I'd go railfanning with a few of my friends today to New Hyde Park to try and catch a few LIRR trains, and possibly a New York & Atlantic freight. The weather didn't look that great in the morning, but we hoped it would clear up...
It never did.
The moment we pulled the car into the station parking lot, we heard the familiar K5LA horn in the distance. We jumped out of the car and set our cameras and stuff up. It turned out to be a LIRR MOW train bringing a ribbon rail flat and a few gondolas out east to Hicksville.
Then we just decided to wait a little while for anything else interesting, but it took a little while. After about an hour in the rain, we were ready to pack our bags but the crossing gates started going down right next to us. We set everything back up again, and sure enough NY&A #156 rolled through the station with #155 and #271 still in the LIRR blue & white paint. What was even cooler was the fact that they were hauling an old LIRR hack out east right behind the engines! If you got rid of the modern cars, it would be a scene right out of the 70s when people didn't laugh about the word freight on Long Island.
