Wow!
Great route Gandalf0444!
Like the how custom it is!
BTW, could you get me the KUID's for that Honda Accord and the Bus.

Cheers,
Woody:cool:
Hello,
Thanks for the compliment:wave:
I know for a fact the greyhound bus is on the DLS, however I am not so sure about the Accord.. I believe that would have come from the DLS as well.

Thanks!

Yeah I like your layout, it is good to see people doing stuff that is either local or familiar.
I'm going to try and do the MRM again, I lost the old one in the crash.

Thanks again:wave: If you have any problems finding those 2 assets just drop me a line and I'll shot you the kuid numbers...:)

A Shunting Story

Some info you should know first:
The area has industries to the West with the outer edge of Locke to the east of the yard. The crews run in 3 hour shifts, unlike the normal 6 hour shifts of the nearby area. This can cause problems, like today.
The area handles mostly fixing cars/locomotives and track equipment. The ballast train is also headquarters is also at Locke Industries. The area needs have to have supplies sent to them about ever week via the afternoon local, typically on Thrusday.
You will mainly see the following: GATX, Centerbeams, Boxcars, Ballast Hoppers, Autoracks in the area. Any other type of rolling stock are along for the ride or have been dropped off with a local for another to pick it up.
If anything has to be switched the railroad with the consist to be switched must have their own switcher do it. So for example: A CSX train brings in a local to be loaded/unloaded, only a CSX switcher can do the operation. Conrail, CSX, and NS use the yard, so you can see all those railroads in the area at the same time. However the primary railroad running in Locke is Conrail.

There are three primary trains that run in and out of the area of Locke:

The Morning Local [CR 1946-MLL] (Arrival ~ 9 AM Departure ~ 11 AM)
The Afternoon Local [CR 6840-ALL] (Arrival ~ 1 PM Departure ~ 3 PM)
The Evening Local [CR 1894-ELL] (Arrival ~ 6 PM Departure ~ 8 PM)

Now to the story:

Date: November 29th 2007
Location: Locke Industries, Locke NY
Time: 3 PM EST
Weather: Clear, mostly sunny with 10% chance of rain, wind from southeast at 2 knots. Evening Forecast: Cloudy, no moon, 25% chance of rain, wind from southwest at 3 knots
Locomotive Count & Status: CR 1946-MLL [Waiting For Clearance], CR 6840-ALL [Waiting For Clearance], CSX 1161-LSB [Shunting - Ballast Train], CSX 1151-LS [Broken Down], CSX 1156-LS [Shunting - Autoracks] NS 6789-U [Broken Down] NS 6551-U [Broken Down]

It is a beautiful fall day! At least that is the locals in the area are saying. The railroad crews aren't saying that, they are behind on their shunting. Nicknamed Switcher's Nightmare, Locke Industries is the hardest place to shunt in the NY Finger Lakes area, especially during rush hour.

Today we see the Morning Local finally leaving the compact shunting zone heading north off the mainline siding. It was supposed to leave at around 10 AM, the current time is now 3 PM. The Afternoon Local has just arrived (on time) and had to be moved onto a siding for the Morning Local to get past.

As the Morning Local slowly moves out of the area we see CSX 1161-LSB moving the now fully loaded ballast train out of its siding to the pick up siding to the North (where the Afternoon Local is currently sitting).

On the North sidings CSX 1156-LS is trying to catch up on the shunting. He is currently moving now fixed Autoracks in the South sidings to get picked up by the Afternoon Local and to make room for the new cars. You can see him behind the Afternoon Local.

The Morning Local, now seen moving past the Afternoon Local, give a friendly toot of their horn and starts to pick up speed to move out of the area.

Sitting on one of the local industries tracks to the North, CSX 1151-LS (sister of CSX 1161 and twin of CSX 1156) waiting for a maintenance crew to show up from Moravia. The shunter has unexpectedly quit. This will cause more delays.

Sitting quietly on the maintenance track, NS 6789 a SD60M and NS 6551 a SD60 are waiting for parts to arrive, currently on one of the boxcar of the Afternoon Local. They were brought in only two days ago after quitting on the mainline and now are finally going to get fixed and put back into service.

With more headaches ahead of them the crews try to overcome the problems and get the shunting done before the Evening Local, which typically arrives early, comes in with their load.

To Be Continued...Maybe :hehe:

Cheers,
Adam

@ Epo: Great screens!! I love the road traffic in all your screenshots. Do you pose the traffic on the roads, or have you created a new cars list? If it is a list, any chance you could post it somewhere??

Andy :)
